Has any ever used Sta-Bil before? Are there any good or bad experiences from this product? And finally has anyone ever used this to keep their bulk gasoline tank fresh for 6 months or longer?

About the first of October, I add Sta-Bil to my gas cans so that all machinery will run once or twice more with the mixture flowing through the carburetors and remain in the tank. Never have had a spring start up problem. Also, put it in all the tractors.

I used to use sta-bil until I learned about sea foam. Sea foam in my opinion is a much better product. Gas has longer life with it than sta-bil. I've got a couple jugs of sta-bil that I didn't even use up after I started using sea foam.

My gas lasted 6 years so far in reply to SWMO Chris, 11-26-2007 16:00:40

I've got a 1979 Datsun 280ZX stored inside an old barn - and I can't get the gas drained out of it. I've tried - and I can't find an easy way to do it. I keep thinking that one of these years I'll put plates on it, drive it, and THEN get some new gas into it. So, the gas in the tank is now 6 years old. I starting the engine twice a year and keep on thinking one of these times - it won't run. But so far, it's fine. I put two doses of Stabil in it - as I said - the gas is 6 years old. In regard to the six month thing?? I've got a bunch of winter cars I take off the road every April or May. They get parked in the field and don't get started again until at least November. I don't put Stabil - or anything else into them and have never had a problem with gas going bad. Different blends of gasoline have different life-spans. Also, air-tight fuel tanks make the gas last a lot longer. I suspect temerpature plays a part too. I've got many pieces of gasoline powered equipment with untreated gas that often sits for two years and still work fine. But, if I know something is going to be stored, I add Stabil. At the last engine show I went to - I pulled a tractor out of my barn that had 3 year old gas still in it. It was never treated and I should of drained it. But, I have over 100 tractors, so it's hard to keep up sometimes. The gas was starting to smell like it was turning, but the tractor started right up and ran fine.

Local radio station interveiwed a large lawnmower shop on the air.The guy says I got 3 things to say,Stabil,Stabil,Stabil.Then the big laugh,he said peaple come back with there stuff all the time saying"I bought this here I only used it once now it won't run no more".Mark

I use it for anything that is going to set a while. I put some in the lawn mower tanks and run them a while before parking for winter. Where I have seen it help the most is in mixed gas for weed eater and saw. I don't use the mixed gas much but when I need it I need it to work. I just add sta-bil when I add the oil and a jug will be good when ever I need it.

I usually keep 40 gal in 5 gal cans in an outdoor bin as an emergency supply for the generator, and treat it all with Sta-Bil. It keeps well through the winter. As spring comes along, I start using it for the yard machines and tractors until it's used up and refill for the next winter so, in my experience, it'll keep gas good for a year.

I'd recommend it.

Stabil is a great product....Sea foam also works as a stabilizer, and works to clean carbs better

I"ve had nothing but good experiences using Sta-Bil in my gas powered equipment. My wheel line motor starts up on the first pull after sitting with Sta-bil treated gas over the winter and spring. I have never had any bad experiences with this gas treatment.

Been using STA-BIL for years. One episode of nasty gas that resulted in plastic lining a tank was enough!! No more prblems with STA-BIL.

I have used stabil and cannot complain about it, but others earlier suggested a product called Sea Foam which as a fuel additive I have used to clean out carbs, etc, but it says on the can it also stabilizes fuel, anyone else have good results using Sea Foam as a fuel stabilizer?

I've really been impressed with Sea Foam.

I never would have thought an additive would do much to clean an engine - I'm pretty skeptical about anything resembling snake oil, etc, but have had several success stories with it!

I've been using sta-bil with good results. I was told you do not need to put anything in 2 stroke gas as it already has oil in it, which is supposed to stabilize the gas?
Anyway really wanted to know what is sea foam and where are you buying it? thanks, scottyb

I've been buying it at Autozone and super Walmart.

It raised my gas mileage a consistent 1-2 mpg on my 97 Cougar with a lot of miles.

It also fixed the gas gauge on my 94 pickup that had gotten gummed up with old gas.

I don't know what is in it - but it sure can help!!

Used sta-bil for many years and it worked pretty good. Gas would easily remain OK for 6 months and I've seen it run in an engine after a year. I've since discovered Sea Foam and have seen gas remain good for 2-3 years. I have a new quart of sta-bil sitting around, but now only use Sea Foam.

I've been using Sta-Bil in all the gas I buy for small engines for 7 or 8 years now. Haven't had a problem yet with stale gas since I started using it.

Sta Bil is the product to use. One of my customers uses it in their new vehicles. They manufacture motor homes and had troubles with the generators gumming up. Now they add Sta Bil and no more problems.

I use it in chainsaws, lawn mowers and snowmobiles. Since I started using it I have had no problems with chainsaw carb gumming up and refusing to start, everything starts well and I have had less repairs to chainsaws. If a vehicle is going to sit for an extended period I put STA BIL in the fuel. It is the cheapest insurance for small engines there is..any engine!

got a snowblower last year, plopped some stabil in it when the snow stopped falling and it ran fine when i got it ready for the season. I'd say its worth it.

I use Sta-bil also. It seems to work. I have read to use it as directed and not to over do it as it can leave a red coating on the inside. Sea-foam is very good too.

I used sta-bll this year but before I have always used SEA FOAM and loved it, but I bought this some time back and wanted to get rid of it,I'm sure it's good stuff.
