I guess you could call what I was doing today "dry" farming since it has been very dry here in SC. We got 1/4 inch of rain day before yesterday and I planted some oats today. Even plowed under the little bit of frost on the grass stubble. If you guys out on the great plains have to do this every year I feel for you.

At least the ground plowed good.

yeah i know what you mean by DRY! i was plowing hilly ground and the hills are clay, forget about sinking the plow very deep. but on the other hand, i went to dig a fiels yesterday, forget about it! too much frost. it would break it away from the other ground but wouldn't break it up like it should. so i just pulled the digger off to the side( because part of the lifting broke since it's close to 60 yrs old) and left it for springtime.
where are you at? i'm in Western Wisconsin.

I'm in Western SC. Supposed to get rain this WE, so I was in a hurry.

There wasn't much frost to plow under, but I'll remember that if the oats don't make.

Hope you get a crop out of it, Dad has always told me to never plow under a frost... every time he did it he had a complete failure.

There's been times where we've plowed under a couple inches of snow and I don't think it ever hurt us any... Better to plow it wet in the fall than to try and wait for it to dry out in the spring if it ain't plowed around here...

Heck, last year I plowed in January or late December after the frost came back outta the ground. Wasn't my choice to wait so long, but the tractor had to go to the shop and when we got it back the ground was frozen too deep. Tehn we got a warm up waayyy too soon but I took advantage of it and plowed under the last 5 acres.

Corn on that field turned out just as nice as the rest of it did this year.
