Over a month ago I posted a few pics of sorghum planting. I remember that you asked a question about row crop planters. Sorry it has taken so long to answer; just one of those things I never get round to. Row planters have been popular here for about 15 years although some people still plant 'the old fasioned way'. Cotton growers were the first to have a look at them, but a lot of disk opener planters didn't seal the seed trench well enough in heavy black soils, causing it to crack open on top and dry the seed out. The JD Maximerge doesen't seem to have this problem and they are now the most common summer crop planter around here. We're not far from Oakey. We live and work in Dalby. Oakey has changed a bit since the 70's. They have built a by-pass around the south side and there is a gas fired power station. The Army Aviation Base has been expanded as well. It's mostly all cropping nowdays although there are couple of big feedlots. Along Oakey Creek as far as Jondaryan, there are a whole bunch of centre-pivots. A very productive area.
