Wonderful! St. Lukes is a great hospital, too. I worked across town from St. Lukes for 7 years, but trained at St. Lukes. Your grandchild truly is in good hands.

I would guess the surgery is being done at Primary Childrens' Hospital? If so, your grandchild is in excellent hands.
I wish I could be there to visit with your daughter but I live too far away. I retired 2 years ago after working in a hospital in SLC for 10 years. I live 175 miles from SLC.
The hospital will have social workers who are there to specifically work with children and their families. Tell your daughter to ask to speak with a social worker. They can be of tremendous support.
Prayers for your family.

Keep the faith, and keep up the prayers! The good Lord, with the aid of the Dr's skilled hands can work MIRACLES.

Here's my son, now 19, who had heart surgery at 6 days of age:

The grandson of a friend of mine just had heart surgery at six days old. Things like this shouldn't happen to babies but, there isn't anything that we can do about it. God can do miracles through the doctors hands. I'll be praying that He gives your little one a long, happy, healthy and prosperous life. Good luck.

I don't have the name of the hospital in utah but I know she and the baby will be back at St. Lukes Boise ID in a few days if all goes well with the surgery. Her other son the bigger of the 2 is there right now waiting on her and his brother to come back. Last time my daughter called she told us they would only be keeping him for 2 or 3 days then fly them back to St. Lukes.

OLD I had a quadruple bypass a few years back and a good friend of mine had open heart surgery to replace an artery in 1957 right after we graduated from high school. I know what he going though hopefully he will get the new surgery where they don't open the chest up. If your daughter want to call for advice or just wants to talk about it then my number is 503 623 0460 I would be more than glad to tell her its a very easy operation now and very little risk anymore. My daughter lives in Chadron, NE that's one state over I will let her know and maybe she can go by she was a great help for me when I in the hospital and not knowing if I would live or not.
Keep your chin up the doctors are really good at this now.
Walt PS my name sake Payton Walter Gage Hoffman has a hole in his heart but its expected to heal on its own as grows up.

My prayers are with you, your daughter and grandson. I am in Kansas - otherwise I would offer to go see what they need - hope there is someone nearby who can look in on them for you. They do miracles with the little ones these days.
