hey guys this jeep is my regular tractor parts go getter, i use it for everything here on the farm too

its a 1996 with 156,000 mile, a 4 liter 6cyl and 5 speed stick. problem is that it bucks and jerks goin up the road when you just hold the throttle in the same spot and engine is rough idling sometimes. surges a little and almost dies out when you get to a stop sign. i replaced fuel and air filter and all plugs and stuff are new.

i aint throwing no dang parts at it just to make napa richer.

thanks

You should be able to cycle the ignition between Off and Run positions(3 times within 5 seconds) and get either the Check Engine light or the odometer(if it has the digital odometer)to flash the computer codes.

My soon-to-be ex-wife's '99 Wrangler, 6 cyl and 6 speed, acted about the same. Turned out to be a bad TPS(about $75).

If you do replace any of the sensors, make sure you disconnect the battery. This will erase the codes stored in the computer. If you do not do this, the computer still thinks you have a bad part installed, and will still run poorly.

Happy wrenching!

Anthony

96 Jeep should be OBD II compatible. Around here (SE Wisconsin) Auto Zone parts stores will hook your vehicle up to a scanner to read the fault codes, sounds like low fuel pressure, fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator. good luck, Billylee
