Today,Monday 11/8/07 made my usual 6AM call on one of my Customers in time to see all thier Golf Course Construction Equipment all lined up and waiting for the morning meeting to end so they could go to work doing what they do. I observed in the line up 5 Massey Fergusons and one little Ford. Reading all the China and U.S. versus them Posts lately has caused me to maybe become a little aware of some of the things I come in contact with every day and thier place of MFG. Any way I took a look at these machines and I found: All the Massey's sported an AGCO Badge but, The 481 was made in Canoas Brazil-The 231 was made by Ursus in Poland-The 461 was made in Turkey- The 4253 was made in Coventry,England- The 4243 was made in UK and the little Ford 1700 was made in Japan. Not a Chinese made one in the bunch but that is not to say that there is not a Massey Ferguson made in China. It would be very interesting indeed if all AGCO Tractor Production of all thier Brands could be spotlighted as to Country of MFG. My customer has a lot of Yellow Construction Equipment,Cat-JD-Kawasaki-Komatsu etc. Would the Country of MFG. of this Yellow Equipment be a surprise also?

I'm rebuilding a Massey Ferguson 35 with a 152 Perkins in it. The crankshaft I got from A&I thru YT Tractor Parts was made in India. The bearings were made in England. The replacement track rollers for my Komatsu D20 were all made in China or Korea. Go to Tractor Supply and try to find any American Made tools. Good luck. We all go for the lower priced items and every time we do it we put another American worker out of a job. It's a dilemma which has no pleasant outcome.

Either our government adopts a more protectionist import and outsourcing stance and saves American jobs in the short term, or we all tighten our belts and start charging less for our services to be more competitive internationally. I don’t see either thing happening. Who knows how it will turn out? What’s your opinion?

JC: Don't know why so many folks get upset about equipment coming from China. You check your super market shelves and do it throughly. It will amaze you just how many products you stick in your mouth everyday, comes from China. Well over 3/4 of processed, pre packaged foods are coming from China. A given product may not be entirely Chineese, but many have one or more components from China.

Cat has had a partnership with Mitsubishi for years and most small Cats are made in Japan. Cat does have parts from China. Dave

I had a New Holland TZ25 and never figured out who made it. Kuboda sells the same thing, and there is a green one that i believe is the same thing with some changes. I have yet to find a copy of my current tractor a B3030 with a cab.

Out at one of the fossil power plants that I do phone work at, they've got a fairly new good sized dozer about the size of a Cat 8R or 9R thats made in Poland, a little smaller than the 10R's that they to move mountains of coal around with, but still good sized. I can't think of the manufacturer, begins with "Dr...", reminds me of Dresser, but aint Dresser. Something else. Just did a Google to try and find it, found one that has all Cat colors and even black stripes in the right place, but made in China. Figures. Them guys copy everything, except quality. It too looks to be in the D8R or D9R range, and even pretty much looks like one, but aint and is probably buyer beware. I sure do hate that.

IIRC, the Dresser line was bought and sent to Poland or Chekoslavakia (SP). They changed the spelling of Dresser slightly..

Next time I'm out there, I'll look, but from memory you sound right. I remember first time I saw it thinking is a Dresser knock off or copy, like Chevy versus Chevey. Is a nice dozer though. I saw the keys hanging on the board for the D10's and kept begging, "Awe, come on fellas, just once". Got a resounding "No" from the same guys that flipped a locomotive on its side in the car dumper as a joke, then couldn't upright it afterwards. The cylinders that flip a full coal car are bigger than the smaller ones that upright the empty car, and not strong enough to upright a locomotive suspended on its side. Kind of hard to explain to the boss how one mistook the locomotive for a coal car from the control tower when indexing them through the dumper. Not much playing around out there after that, and no joyride by the phone guy in a big cat.

Regardless of where it is assembled, there may indeed be Chinese components on them. I suspect a lot of the castings originate there..not all, but a lot.

Now, the surprise I got on my 2005 JD 5320 ASSEMBLED IN GEORGIA, USA...is the multi origins of the parts. Italian front axle (Carrero), Spanish Bosch electrical system, Mexican built engine, Spanish 3 point links, supposedly Polish built hydraulics, Mannheim transmission/rear axle and lo and behold....I crawled under the rear end, looked up and the draw bar housing says..CHINA! Yep, Mother Deere hid that out of sight. What else came from there, I haven't yet found out. I am sure there are more.
