Hey Andy-your parts arrived today, and they fit, thanks :-)

Hey Bill in Colo- I put up a inquiry on the hauling sceduel, and got 5 responces. Someone will do it for ninty cents a mile, so, im assuming this H you speak of is in pretty poor condition, but how bad? The trip would probabally be $800-$1000 so it would have to wait, i just spent alot on unprading my tools, after i figured it would have to wait until spring or summer, and i would eventually need new ones anyway, and i figured the soonest i could restart my search would be next spring, then this comes along!

Pink Panther-I'm sending you an e-mail.

I take all the blame for this , me and my hair brained ideas. Lanse, As much as you would like to have Bill's H, The money it will cost to get it to you is money thrown away. Hillbilly said he had a H ( for $600 I think), and he wasn't that far from you. If it runs, you could pick a warm day and drive it home. Maybe if you meet him, he would take a likin to ya and knock a few bucks off the price, and you would have 3 or 4 hundred left to start fixin it up. Think about this, When you are older and have a decent paying job, then you can save up for the cross country tractor relays. In the mean time, try to get the most you can close to home and make what money you have work for you. Chris

Okay I've got to chime in here. Yea its great a young kid is interested in tractors (I'm only 18) but why not work your rear off and pay to find a tractor near you than having all this free charity given to you to haul one of the most common tractors ever, 1,100 miles. Paying for it yourself will instill a sense of value in yourself and you will take better care of it if its your own money that was spent on the tractor/supplies/hauling. Sure I've had stuff given to me but I pay for the fuel to haul it home and I help load and usually unload with by myself or my little brothers help me.

my rant on this

third party image

This dandy H sold for $2500 last Sat on a farm sale not far from me.There are much cheaper H's around my area.

Several years ago I got a D-21 AC hauled from Montana for 60 cents a loaded mile.Fuel was much cheaper then.

Well, yeah, but like the H for one, always have, and if they're not worth much, that just sweetens the deal (if i could find one around here)

Be careful not to get in over your head with taking on a project thats too large for a beginner, an old stuck tractor costs a lot to fix up and its quite the undertaking requiring far more than just basic tools and lots of patience with the ability to stick to it and see the long project through. You wouldn't believe how hard a bolt can get rusted into place on a 50yr old tractor, now the bad part is that theres lots of those bolts on every old tractor restoration. To be honest, I really don't think restoring an old tractor is something you could do right now at such a young age, and you need more mechanical experience before going for a big tractor. You can get pretty hurt if you do something wrong while working on a big tractor. Take your time and look around for a tractor that runs good, then that way you can have some fun

Lanse,
I haven`t been following this real close, but to pay to have an H hauled approx 1,100 miles doesn`t sound like a smart move. I don`t doubt whoever is offering you the tractor has great intentions, but.... Free ain`t free unless you happen to live next door and can yank it home with your Kubota.

I think some of the earlier advice of being patient and keeping your nose to the ground around your area will pay off for ya.

That $1000 could go a long way toward a nice, running H or M.

Hats off for your enthusiasm, but save your money, so when the right deal comes along you can grab it.

But, the choices are yours Goodluck BW

Lanse,
It's not much, but if you get the ball rolling and this thing pans out, put me down for $20 in the gas tank as well. I really appreciate seeing young people who are still interested in old iron rather than video games and tv 24/7.

$1000! When I said I would chip in on gas, I was thinking along the lines of twenty bucks or so... LOL.

Do you get the "Country Living" paper that comes out once a month? There are usually some cheap machines in there. If nothing else, just continue to save your money. That way you'll be ready when the right deal does present itself.

Country Living:

There's an H in Maria Stein, OH (just NW of you) for $950 OBO.

Another H in Versailles, no price listed. The number there is 937-526-4350. Give 'em a call and see what they want for it.
