Ideal story line:

Johndeerejon gets over the fact that some people buy junk farm trucks and/or requests a change of job so himself (and everyone else) can be happy again.

The rest of you happily keep on "junk farm truckin'"!!

END OF STORY

AMEN!

I want to add my thoughts on old farm trucks. Granted some are a piece of junk but some are not!!!! I have a 1979 Chevy C-70 w/10' dump with a 366 that has about 20,500 miles on it (Bought it new!).

is it just me or are we having WAY too many fights and rants on this board? Tools, trucks, life in genral. I realise you need to vent, but I think we need a board for it. I also think some people here are the culprits. 'Deerejohn, from my point of view was trying to say something till people cut in. If you cant make a living on 230 acres dont try. Just my 2 cents.

Who said anything about making a living farming 230 acres of grain? It wont but it sure helps out when things go right.Lots of us on here are part time farmers. We farm with older smaller machinery.

When someone comes on here bashing what you use to haul your grain with, says absolutely no one wants to work on these old trucks when lots do,says that parts are unavailable for anything older than 1985 when they are, then someone needs to give another point of view.

The question is do you spend $18-20,000 for a semi on 230 acres that will be used 500 miles per year or do you spend $3000 for 2 old 2 ton trucks that will be used 1500 miles per year?I do alot of my own work on my trucks and a friend thats a great mechanic does the rest.

By the way my combines unloading auger wont even reach over a hopper bottom to unload in.

I wonder how johndeerejon hauls cattle in his gravity wagons, or bags of seed corn, or manure, or roof tear off, or scrap iron. As for the versatility of high sided grain box, has anybody ever found a better place to store the kids when their mom is in town ?

Good point.

I get flyers from a local auction company all the time. I notice that the farm auctions frequently show a listing of a whole fleet of fancy trucks, tractors and combines. The equipment is relatively new, excellent condition etc.

Maybe, just maybe, if they cut out all the fancy frills they could still stay in business.

Or maybe they are selling it so they can sit on the porch drinking beer and telling others how to do it the right way.
