These new mini trucks are poping up everywhere around me. (I know a lot of institution used cushman trucks in the past.) Are these things road leagal? What about emmision and safty laws? are they classed as an atv? Its going to the legislature this winter here on the laws. Many people are setting up dealerships. (pending law changes) What is your take on them in your area? Right now its a hype here, there on tv and everyone is talking about them!!

Safe enought, but hey, thats from the perspective of a 14yr. old!! THEY LOOK FUN!!!!

Seriously, I cant stand people like that. People have been plowing for thousands of years, it wont hurt nothin. a few days ago, i went out plowin at 5am before school, that kuboda sure has some lights on it!!! Anyway, about 20mins after the sun came up, I glanced across the road to see our elderly neighbors out on their porch watchin everything. Was a good feelin.

They don't have collapsible steering columns, air bags, their bumpers don't meet our low standards, and they can't pass collision tests. In Japan where most of these trucks come from they have 2 standards for vehicles. Only some vehicles are allowed on the expressways. They have cars called city cars that are not intended to go over 40 MPH that get great gas mileage but are very small and have few safety features. These little trucks are much the same.

Since even county roads in same states may have a speed limit of 55 MPH I doubt that these cars and trucks will ever be road legal here.

I tend to agree with that. I knew about the 2 or 3 vechile system in some contries. There life style is ifferent than ours.

In Kansas they are not road legal. The local school district bought one thinking they could run from one school to another in them but the local police put the skids on that idea.

Hey that's interesting. In Winfield, Ks. the city police use a little three wheeled cushman to run around town and issue parking tickets. Would be funny to think of them getting fined by the State Police for using an off road vehicle.

There are a lot for sale here in Michigan, but I don't personally know anybody that has one. Look like they'd be just a little more of a pain in the rear to get out of to open and close gates than to just hop off the 4 wheeler. Wouldn't go through the brush so well either.

Yeah most countrys have vehicles that get over 50 mog when I was in Germany about 6 years ago they were testing a BMW 4 door car that was getting 75 mpg on the wheel dyno they had a "smart car" very small 2 person that was gettting a little over a 100 mpg and selling them all over Europe these mini truck come over fom Japan and are getting 50 to 60 or at least the ones in my area do. In MIssouri they are going throught hte courts to get them Lisenced but do not know what the out come will be right now they wont let them run them on the road period.

The Mercedes diesel & gasser smart car is all over Canada. They are so tiny they can almost be legally parked sideways in a normal parking spot. I would want to hit anything larger than a tree rat with one.

We are looking into one of those for the jobsite( typically 20 acres). We wouldn't be registering it but, using for transporting trash pump and hoses or wheel barrows and tools. Light stuff. I believe they are all used and can be bought direct from Japan(?) and shipped here for less than you see advertised on TV. Google Diatsu truck or such. We have used a toilet, I mean, Toyota truck previosly. But Insurance and registration cost considered and the fact that some employee always needs to take it home etc has prompted the company to get rid of it.

Also if the atv owner was in Riverside county, Ca. he would find that the new noise ordinances prohibit most offroad vehicle use on private property. You see, city people move out to rural neighborhoods and build jumps and courses on their 5 acre parcel. Never thinking that their neighbors don't want to hear - it especially at all hours.third party image

A lot of golf courses and places like that use them around here. My neighbor had one for a short while, it was a diesel Mitsubishi and was not worth the powder to blow it to hell. It could barely pull itself on level ground, but it was old and I'm sure they are better. I've also heard parts are pretty expensive and hard to come by. They would be nice for cramped cities. Hotflash, I can't believe someone hastled you about your 4 wheeler on your own property. They are much more efficient than a lawn tractor for pulling loads, but he would not have called the cops on you for that!

It won't happen here in Massachusetts. I can't ride my 4-wheeler on my own property without people going nuts and calling the police on me. I was hauling leaves to our compost pile the other weekend with it and the new neighbor across the street called the police 3 times on me before they finally sent someone to my house. Own property, registered 4-wheeler, helmet on, nothing the police can do! As much as it would be nice, I do not see it happening in my state at least.

They are not legal on the Roads with a center stripe In WV . But are same as any other ATV . I don't think they will meet safty requirments in the USA . Would be nice if they did . Could use on farm and run ot town they get abuot 50 MPG . Would like to see them leglized for use in town & country roads but I don't think they would be a good idea on Interstate . But you don't think the present adminstration would hold still for something that would get 50 MPG that would be taking money out of their pockets.

The "administration" doesn't control the market. If manufacturers could make a car that would get 50 mpg, they would do it. These conspiracy theories are getting old. i've heard them for 50 years.

Does every other country have cars that get that kind of mileage but us?????

Those high fuel mileage vehicles. in reply to IH2444, 10-30-2007 05:43:46
The old VW Rabbit Diesel and the Chevy Chevette Diesel (1980's) would get over 50 mpg. The Rabbit engine was kind of hard on head gaskets, but the Chevette Diesel would outlast a couple Chevettes for what that's worth. Chevy sold a LUV truck with the same Isuzi diesel engine; it was a rustbucket.

I'm not talking about cars that are the size of a shoebox.

This "administration" doesn't control what they do in other countries, so are their SUV's and pickups getting tremendous mileage???

Or does the "big oil conspiracy" spread around the world?

They can make them ,but the people here won't buy them ! Look at all these diesel pickups. The HP and towing ratings keep going up and the fuel mileage goes down. Even then many feel the need to chip them up to higher HP yet so they can go 100 MPH up hill fully overloaded. These engines are WAY bigger then the old over the road semis of days long past.
