My grand daughter finished 14th in a field of over 900 in the regional high school cross country meet yesterday. She goes on to the state finals next Saturday in Brooklyn Michigan. Wife is trying to swap the day off with somebody so we can be there. I was pretty impressed.

rrlund, congratulations to your granddaughter for finishing 14th out of over 900! Does she by any chance go to Harrison High School near Farmington Hills? If so, my nephew was at the same meet and finished 21st overall and 1st for Harrison. I hear that it was a little bit muddy!

RR - Great! We'll be pulling for her! Daughter used to run CC - made it to all state once. What a thrill. Be sure and tell us how she does.

She would have come in no less than third if Lanse had been chasing her on his lawnmower

Congrats on the granddaughter running. I have to travel 250 miles south to watch mine run, but it's worth it. Good Luck,
Paul

My daughter ran for the first time this year. (7th grade) She really enjoyed it, course it helps that she's the fastest on her team. They are'nt as fast as some of the other schools though. She just started running in Aug. so she should really improve next year. She's got the body for it, tall and lean. I told her that all she needs to be truly great is a desire to win.
Good luck to your granddaughter, that's quite an accomplishment in a field that big.

My daughter discovered that she was the fastest distance runner around when she was in 7th grade track. By the time she finished high school, she had 3 state championships in CC and 3 more in distance races in track. Then she got most of her college paid for as a scholarship runner and went to the Nationals all 4 years of her eligibility.

It was hard to believe that a child of mine would ever get an athletic scholarship--I didn't have much talent. I just wish my Dad had lived long enough to see my daughter have her great successes. He had been a good athlete, quick as a cat, and my daughter must have inherited some of her talent from him.

We traveled many thousands of miles watching our daughter run all over the country, and that was some of the best time of my life.

Good luck to your daughter. Cross Country rules!!!
