Warning to everyone. I supposedly bought an Oliver tractor from Vern Otto from Beausejour, Manitoba, Canada. It was posted in the Photo Ads. I wired him money as requested and was told the tractor would be shipped within a couple weeks. I hadn’t heard anything and dropped him an email to see where things were.

I got a “story” back about the fact that the tractor I had “bought” had been sold by the actual owner and Vern hadn’t paid for it. In the meantime he says he used my money to buy another tractor and will send my money back “in time”. At this point I’m out a little over $3,500 and am evidently acting as Vern’s banker.

I called him twice and he hung up on me both times. When I told him I would post it on ytmag.com to warn everyone he told me he’d take a long time to get my money back to me. A warning to anyone who is buying a tractor from him – DON’T!!! Drop me an email or give me a call if you like and I can give you more details.

Just wanted to thank everyone for all of your comments. I am trusting and haven't found hardly anyone in the tractor hobby who I wouldn't trust. I'm hoping it works out and I appreciate all of you helping "police" our great little hobby. I sure don't want to lose my money and will pursue it but I sure felt it necessary to warn everyone else, even it I never see it again. I wouldn't feel right not keeping someone else from losing the same way! Thanks again - I'll keep you informed.

IOG: First off I don"t condone Mr. Otto"s actions, however I don"t condone yours either. Mr. Otto was selling on YT when I first came here in 1999. I"m almost 100% certain if he had a habit of doing as you acuse, he would not be around anymore in 2007

I now turn to you and if your going to make such an accusation, use your own name, handles are not acceptable in such a serious matter. Lets see proof of your money wire. You must either have an e mail record or or a record of long distance phone calls, dates and length of each call.

Finally, fools and their money soon part company. The way I see it, if your going to buy items, sight unseen, never send more money than you can afford to loose.

Sorry to hear about that. I am glad some one posted his phone number. What do you bet he turns the ringer off some time around midnight? We could always stuff him in a cattle trailer and drop him off at my local sale barn next Monday!!!! :) No joke I think I would be talking to some sort of law bout this.

Definitely notify RCMP. Silence is acceptance and I wouldn't wait for this guy to make it right on his terms.

Dont trust people. Say no to someone you dont know, and will probabally never meet. Dont risk it. Sounds cruel, but all they care about is money, not morals, so you have to be the same way sometimes. I would never buy a tractor on words alone unless I really knew the person. I would get $3500 in cash and tell him you'll be right over. Fork over the money when he forks over the keys.

As for this loser, if you had the intention to buy the tractor, and the other person agreed, I would go on a little roadtrip with a double axel trailer and go get your tractor. If you show up and he runs you out, call the local police. Im sure they'll help.

I guess I have been lucky so far I have bought aand sold a lot of stuff on E-bay and so far have never been stung. Well i did buy an antenna that was supposed to help my cell phone work in the house so far I still trying to figure out what he meant by two bars of improvement. I would try to get in touch with the local police a visit from them may just rattle his cage enough to make drop a few bucks in the mail. He seems like a nice guy who has done something that he may well regret in the future.

Man you have been taken but you made it pretty easy for him. I would never even consider sending that kind of money for a tractor 1000 miles away I have never seen. Maybe 3500 isn't much for you but it is for me. Now look at the time, grief and probably MORE money you will spend to get your original capital back. I feel for you but you can't trust people that way now. It ain't 1955 anymore.

If you wired him the money and he didn"t deliver, you probably have him on International Wire Fraud, which I think is a pretty big deal. Definitely contact the authorities.

Do a search on this site for that name - a right mixed bunch to read.

If I only believed half of what was said, I would be very, very wary of doing any deal with that guy.

You might get a cash deal without any guarantee if you are there in person, picking up immediately.

I would go through the legal proceedings soonest, not later.

And of course you're included in that 5%. The fact you have to use a different name for your post proves that. Somebody deals in good faith and gets burned and you think they deserve it? Unbelievable! Dave

I guess I am from the old school. I still believe in peoples word, or a hand shake. I don't think Oliver Guy made himself a target. He just trusted the other guy to be as honest as he is. Stan

So this guy tried to sell you a tractor that someone else had for sale in his neck of the woods, but by the time he went to buy it with your money it was sold already? Then he used your money to buy another tractor for himself? Wow! That takes a set of kahonies.

Whoa, this is not good. I have defended Vern in the past as I bought a tractor from him and it was a very good transaction. I also wired him money, but it all went well. If directions to his place or an address would help, I should have his business card in my files. I know he gave me one. Good luck. I truly hope Vern has not stooped to the level you are describing. That is not the type of people we need to deal with on this site.

Yes, it's time to do some research and see what kind of fraud you could get him for. Find a good researcher and get on him.
