Early John Deeres and early Briggs and Stratton engines had them. As you can see, there's tons of equipment that used a brass carb. Take some degreaser to it and see if you can find any numbers.

Any brand name or numbers on it? Schebler and others made lots of early brass carburetors.

FWIW, I've got IH TC-1 parts catalog for McC-Drg 10-20HP Gear Drive Tractors (30M--8-28) (and here I thought all the old ones had gears...) which no one bid on, probably 'cuz seller said was well used (he was right) and I thought he might throw it away.
Anyhow, lists an Ensign "JA", a second Ensign "JA" ??, an Ensign "JH", an Ensign "R" and an "Int'l R" carbs, all 11/4" opening, but no mention of what it made of.
