I know what you mean, neigbor needed some sort of pipe for his little M. Went to Deere dealer, pipe is about 2 foot long, made of copper and has a couple of bends with flares ends and nuts. he paid 40 bucks for. I made the same peice, out of copper, for another M he pruchased a few weeks later, for around 4 bucks. another neighbor paid $90 for a voltage regulator with a JD emblem on it. After looing it over and looking at the instructions that came with it, found it was the sme regulator, made by some foreign comany, and he could have picked up at Autozone for $35.

That sounds like the kind of part you could make yourself, a thread die, torch and drill press.

Imagine. Factory fresh parts that fit and work. Right from your local dealer that hasn't gone bankrupt. For a 35+ year old machine no less. Try that at your local vehicle dealership. Figuring the cost of carrying inventory. Mother Deere didn't make anything on those parts. Your local dealer whom also pays wages, insurance, utility bills, franchise fee and a building mortgage. He didn't make anything either. You should be happy and standing at your dealer's door as a satisfied customer when it comes time to replace the 3300.

How do you figure Deere and the dealer made no money on that deal ????? ????? ????? ????? ??

You can't stay in business by not makeing money !!!!! !!!!! !

Deere (I'm sure others too) sometimes reports of record earnings to the stockholders and at the exact same time they are anouncing that parts prices increased and average of 5% or even 10% They are in it for the profits. No question in my mind.

I sure appreciate getting those parts, just as I can readily get parts for my 1995 F150 (same basic truck that I first bought 30 yrs ago in 1965). However, when I can no longer get parts for this machine, I won't be replacing it.Since I farm for a living, I don't have the privilege of setting prices like manufactures do. If farmers could use the same cost structure you describe, we would all be using the latest and greatest machinery while listening to the cries of the public over high food prices. BTW, this dealer has been in business for well over 60 yrs, hasn't had a mortgage for many, many years and are multi millionaires. JD came to them several times before they took on the JD dealership as Deere insisted that they not carry other lines eg. Kubota and Honda. They are still a very large Kubota and Honda dealership as well!!

One of the few if they are Deere and have a second tractor line. Is it still owned by the original family? From what I understand they are not letting dealerships pass to children if not pure green or in the good graces of mother deere.

Yes, this dealership is still owned by the original family and is being passed to the grandchildren. The father actually started in the dead stock business, eventually leading to the feed mill and farm supply business. Included in the business was the Cockshutt/Oliver franchise, then David Brown/Case/White. Local JD dealership went broke during the 80's and JD went looking for a replacement dealer. They tried to dictate conditions to the family and were told to take a hike, eventually agreeing to the dealer's wishes. The father actually lived above his store till the day he died. He was always available 24/7 for parts and in his later years would sit in the showroom in order to shoot the bull with the customers. The only new building they ever constructed was the hardware/office/servicebay building, with the remaining buildings adapted from existing barns. The three sons took over and now three of their sons are now replacing them gradually. This man knew his customers one on one and actually helped many start farming by extending credit. We actually have a Case/IH dealership that is quite similar in that it is being passed along to the children as well.

There is still a Deere lawn and garden and Kubota full line incl. construction dealer in Millersburg Ohio. I wonder if they are getting much grief from Deere ?
