Hi!
I got a Pioneer 500 chainsaw from my uncle. I had to work on the spring for the pull starter, but it runs really well now. Problem is It's almost out of gas and I can't find what the fuel to oil mix is!

I have a sthil saw and a shindawa weedeater that take 50:1 and it would be nice if it took the same! But I guess I shouldn't hope too hard.... ;)

BTW When I opened the tank, It gave off a really strong smell like rubbing alchol, or vinager.

Hope someone can help me out!
Thanks.

P.S. Sorry in advance for any spelling or grammer errors! ;)

Use your little "one shot" Stihl 50:1 oil in a clean can, and add exactly 8/10 gallon of fresh gas. That will give you a 40:1 mix. I do this all the time. By varying the amount of gas, I can get any mix ratio, and I only have to stock one oil in the barn: the Stihl 50:1 bottles that come in a six pack. Tom

Hi!
Thanks for your responses!
I'll probably use the 50:1 mix and add a drop or two into the saw's tank to bring it into "balance"
Thanks once again!

HalleluYah!

Go by what the can of oil says. Todays oils are much better than those that were used when your saw was made.

I had an old Stihl that called for 16:1, and the Stihl 2 cycle oil said 40:1 at that time. The saw tech said the new oil is better, but also old saws didn't have a good a metal- so he recommended you split the difference. Said he's been recomending that for years, with no problems. And 2 cycle oil is cheap, compared to a new saw, so why not be safe.

The link below lists the manufacturors specs for the saw. 40:1 is what the recommend, 32:1 would also work fine. Dunno if I would use 50:1 if it were mine...

Then older saws do not have as much nickel or however you spell in the cylinders so they do require more oil than the newer ones, becasue the old cylinders just are not as hard as the new ones. I would use a 32:1 mix in WITH a good 2 cycle air cooled engien oil. Not an oil bought from you local Walmart or gas station. You have a vey nice saw there, but parts are almost non existant, so you might want to take care a littel special care of it. Obviousy then bars and chains are common, but the air filters, igntion, other hard parts are hard to find, they were bougth out by Partner, then were bought by Poulan and sold under the Poulan Pro brand for a few years.

I'm not sure but I've never heard of a saw (etc.) burning up because it too 32 to 1 and someone ran 50 to 1 mix.

I grabbed the wrong can and ran 1/2 a tank of diesel through my Stihl Farm Boss and had no problem except that it didn't run as well. Called the shop and they said it wouldn't hurt it.

Straight gas will trash the motor but as long as you have some oil in the mix it should be OK. There's not a lot of difference between 32 to 1 and 50 to 1.
