Was coming home from a sale on Saturday when I passed a truckload of millet headed for the elevator.

Noticed out the corner of my eye that the old bugger was a twin sister to my truck with a beet box converted to haul grain and that it was equipped with a roll tarp, so I flipped a U-turn on the hiway and followed him to the scales to get a better look at the thing.

Anyhoo, long story short and with a little leg work, I finally found the guy over in Denver who actually built the gizmo. Called him and tried to order one.

Fella said it had been a number of years since he'd built it, couldn't remember all the details and that if I'd get him some pictures to refresh his memory, he could put me together an order.

Gotta gets me one of these handy-dandy tarps. Looks to be the best idea since canned beer. :>)

You can put that $1k towards that Indiana truck!!! Did you see all the pictures, you know you want to own it! Plus, it already has the tarp installed.

Hey Kirk!

Should have gotten back to you earlier.

Don't you give up on me on that truck! We're not done with this deal yet; just jugglin' things around here and trying to figure out a way to make 'er work. Can ya meet me in Omaha? It would be a two-day drive for both of us. :>)

Sorry Pard, should have sent ya an email. :>)

Yup that's about how mine looks.
Except mine's an 18 wheeler. My intermediate bows are 1 inch square tubing welded up to make a straight sided arch--kinda looks home built. The tarp tubes are 1 1/4 pipe with a simple u-joint to the handle. Handle is 3/4 pipe with the appropriate ells. On the left side (opposite the side the trap is fastened to the bed on) there is a ledge bolted to the top of the bed so that the trap can be pulled down tight just by rolling the trap up backward.
With your skills Allan you should be able to make it your self. But then do you really need it since it does rain, course if you pile the grain above the sides it'll blow off goin' down the road.

How far does that ledge stick out on the left side? Assume you just crank the handle around on the u-joint to park, so as to lock it in place after you've tightened?

The store bought models use three straps and tighteners. Like your idea better.

Oh heck yeah. Wind is my only concern. We're schedualed for rain in '09 for about 30 minutes so I just won't haul anything on that one day. :>)

He wouldn't give me a price over the phone because these beet boxes are really an odd ball size.

Other guys have told me $600 to $700 but that theirs were installed a few years ago. So, I'm kinda bracin' myself for a $1K deal here. :>(

Over here there are several places that would have it on our old truck before ya could drink a beer . Mountain Tarp is one of them , Lots of coal buckets run them . Had one on the one coal bucket that i was driven for a short time . Was ten times faster then what i had on mine way back and mine at the time was a new state of the art tarp system with the bows and anti sail straps but with mine ya still had to climb up on the trailer and shove the tarp off to one side . while i was typen this one of my old coal bucket buddys just went past the house and he has a Mountain Tarp on his bucket.

Yeah,

The only problem out here is the distance and the shipping. Even the sunlight is hauled in by pack mule. :>)

This fella in Denver is one of the original builders from SD. He runs the Denver outlet now.

Green is not a recognized color around Allan's place. To paraphrase Henry Ford, "Any color you want, as long as it's red."
