Dad and I were looking through the catalogs from the stores trying ot figure out the best way to go to replace the 14" tires that both went flat on Sunday. Got a Fleet Farm flyer in the Sunday paper, started flipping through there when we saw the trailer tires.

We ended up buying a pair of ST205-75 D14 trailer tires to replace the old car tires on there (one was a 205-75 R14, the other was something like an H78-14). I still gotta mount them because Fleet Farm won't mount a tubeless tire w/ a tube because it's their policy. Still not a bad deal though. $55 vs. $85 each for a 9.5L 14 that might not even fit due to clearance issues with the frame... It's still a 6-ply tire too!

Definately don't need anything that expensive...

Atleast not yet. Good ot have though incase I decide to fix up the old Oliver #2 hayrake we have and put the original rims back on- the really tall ones that need a really expensive tire on them...

Dad picked up the tires today after having them mounted. Look good, still gotta get them installed on the cultivator again.

I have found that the 14 inch trailer tire to be the best replacement for 14 inch car tires on farm equipment. Somewhat cheap but heavy duty and bias too. Have used many on hay racks.

I guess the real test is gonna be when we have them mounted, but a 6 ply sidewall vs. a 2 ply side wall in a car tire seems like a pretty good deal to me. I even loooked up the specs of the different tires and these ones should be pretty close to the same diameter as what was on there.

I kinda figured they'd be the best way to go if a hay wagon had 14" rims on it- car tires that small just don't hold up under that kind of weight and a good implement tire is expensive, and most places don't even have them in stock around here.

Oh and it is nice to know that I beat Farm and Fleet prices also.

Wonder how long a spare donut tire would last? Sure would be small enough and cheap. Usually free or 5 bucks at a wrecking yard.

I have been running a donut on my haybine since spring and it's still going.

A donut on a haybine here would rut the fields all to pieces. The regular tires already leave ruts in any wet spots.
