Trying to figure out what amp my alt is. Its a sio delco and has a long ser no. and the number 61A stamped to the right of the no. The next line has the no.8A30 12V Neg. Does anyone know for sure what the amp. is or how to tell what amp it is? thanks Sam

If the alternator has never been "factory rebuilt", it is 61 Amps.

If it has been rebuilt, and sold at some NAPA-like place ALL bets are off. The rebuilders assemble what they need, then stick a paper tag on, which soon falls off in use. They do NOT change the # stamped into the endbell, so the original stamped numbers MAY not correspond at all to how the alternator has been rebuilt.

Thanks for the replys. I thought that it was a 61 amp but wasent sure. My knowledge of electric is limited. I do know not to touch a elec. fence on wet ground,it will wake you up when night hunting. Thanks Sam

Most likely, the 61A us your amp rating. Most I have seen are stamped this way.
