I have the 190XT trans and differential opened up and found one inch deep muddy sludge all over the bottom and in the axle housing to. I don't think the guy before me changed the oil but once every 10 years or something. I can't believe anybody would do that, even if the tractor has paid for itself a couple times over you would think the guy would still keep it in good shape so it would continue to pay for itself a couple more times...I don't get it.

It isn't always just the owner. In 1963 my father had a brand new JD 1010 crawler tractor. He took it in to the dealer for its maybe 100 hour service, I can't remember exactly. They drained the direction reverser, changed the filter element and then started to pour the fluid back into it. He stopped them and asked what they thought they were doing. "Saving you some money". He said "Well you can drain that "stuff" right back out and put in new oil, the manual says change it, and that's what I want you to do." I still have the tractor, by the way, and the reverser has only been opened up once since it was new.

I have over 300,000 on the oil in my tranny on my Saab Sonett II I bought new in 1969. Should I change it now or just wait till something happens

Got a Sister in law who drives like Earnhart and never checks the oil. She ran cars until the light came on. Once asked me why her car made a "ticking" sound at idle. I checked her oil and it didn't even show on the stick. I feel sorry for the person who got that leased Probe.

Years ago, a lady that worked for us asked me if I would check the oil in her car, that the oil light was coming on.. I checked it, and there was just enough to touch the tip of the dipstick.. I always keep a gallon of Rotella in the truck, so I put enough in to read full on the stick... It took almost the entire gallon, to fill it to full.. She admitted that she had never had the oil changedm since she got the car new... I looked at the odometer, 43,000 + miles...

A good friend of mine owns a Penzoil quick lube. About 1/3 of his new customers come in because the oil light is blinking on!!
25 to 30 thousand and never even checked the oil.
That is a sad statement! JimN

If I`m looking to buy a used car, I always go for a 2-3 year old, 1 owner Caddy or Lincoln. IMHO the people who buy those new are more likely to take care of them correctly that the buyers of Dodge Noens or even Mercedes Benz. Unless of course they have added 20 inch rims and 50,000 watt speaker amp. Them are junkers for sure.

Yeah, people slack off after a while. Eventually the new tractor slowly causes the old one to deteriorate and it is finally left outside.

That's the least that can happen with any old tractor, sludge.

Some people are about a dense as a rock. I remember waiting at the parts counter in a tractor dealership maybe 20-25 years ago. Was listning to a customer with a new tractor being stupid cheap. He was getting near the 100 hour mark and was asking/telling the dealer " I don't really have to change that hytran at 100 hrs do I ? I mean, that is going to cost me over $100 for that oil and filter" I am guessing he had right around a $ 50,000 tractor. I thought, yeah, leave all the metal fuzz from breaking in all those trans/rear end gears, along with assorted casting sand, paint, dirt in your new tractor, what could it possibly hurt??? And when the trans bearings or hydraulic pump fails in a year, it will be all the tractor makers fault right ???

Yup, I know a guy who hasn't changed the oil in his new car for 20,000 miles. He said he knows that's not right, but he does it because he doesn't care.
