I hate to go into the farm store and make a fool of myself so I will do it on line. Is there or is there not a special tire guage for liquid filled tires. I know dad had one he used. I guess it could have just been a old guage he did not mind getting calc in but thats not the way I remember it. If they are out there I will quit rotating my tire till the stem is up and checking and buy it if not well least I know.

Just orderd one from the Snap-on guy, quoted New Zealand $24.00. Good for water filled tyres and has a low (5 to 45 lbf/sq in) range

I was at TSC and found a tire guage marked "Tractor Tire Gauge - For Air & Liquid Filled Tires"
Brand "Monkey Grip"

NEVER use a regular tire gauge on fluid filled tires. They will stick solid after 1 or 2 uses. Go to the local farm tire store and buy 1 from them. The end of the stick part of the gauge will have a ball on the end of it. It designates it to be a gauge to be used with calcium filled tires. Even when you are done with it, stick the end of it in water and pull it out and in, rinse it out good. We have had them lie in the service truck as little as two days found them stuck.

If you do not check the pressure with the stem up you will get a higher reading because you will have the pressure of the weight of the fluid added to the amount of air pressure. That is why a tire with fluid may require 7 -12 PSI while the same tire without fluid might need 16-20 PSI. Check the pressure by parkng on a hard surface with the end of a bar directly below the axle. You should have enough pressure to raise the end of the bar off the ground so there is 1/8 to 1/4 inch gap.

Actually the pressure is the same whether you take at the bottom or at the top.

Can someone explain Owen's method (below) a little clearer? Or maybe draw a picture for me? I'm a little stupid sometimes.....

Milton has some that are listed for liquid filled tires. The main differance is a spring the pulls the plunger back in to expell the fluid. I have used normal gauges with no problems. Just shake the liquid out of them.
