This is an Amazone made on Germany, 10 foot power harrow and packers with air seed grain drill ontop. This type of unit is very popular here.

EXTRA PTO SHAFT ON POWER HARROW QUESTION

The shaft on the rear of that Lemken blue power harrow is there to take the drive from the front pto shaft when the implement is mounted on the 3 point on the front of the tractor. Same idea as the push-pull plough.

Hi David. I have an Amazone Power Harrow that I bought in the early 1970's. Can't tell you the model, but it's green with 2 rows of teeth that move back and forth parallel to each other. Really does a nice job,BUT, our soil is heavy clay which tends to hold the moisture a little too long in the spring which the power harrows then tend to roll it up in little balls!! However, it's a dandy tool to work manure into drier ground later in the year. I think the main reason power harrows never really took off here is that they were considered too slow in comparison to conventional systems in those days.
With the changes we see almost daily in agriculture to-day, that system may come around again here.

My special interest is the two fellows to the right of the Photo. Back Track in time to 1938 and they would fit in perfectly in a "James Herriot" Story, don'tcha think? Time and Inventions change but the People basically[except for Entertainers and Copy Cats of same } stay the same.

Very interesting how things are done in other parts of the world. Around here the no till drill is the weapon of choice. They drill small grains and soybeans into sod or stalks. Just make a tiny slice. I'm guessing in England and Europe with limited growing acreage the game is about making maximum yield.

Same game different tactics. We go for maximum yield here too. I was on a trip in Saskatchewan in 1999 and was introduced to air seeders. Now the air seeder has just about replaced the drill here in Southern Indiana. The majority of drills and air seeders here are 30 ft. wide or larger.
