Or so I thought. I thought maybe early DC or CC but pictures I looked at don't match. Then I got to looking and there is no place to bolt a carburetor or air intake. Must be one of the new fuel efficient models? casting numbers V41A & V42A

That looks to me to be a manifold off a Caterpillar 15 or similar small Cat engine.

The small Cats were strange in that the the Carb was on the other side of the block from the manifold and the mixture passed thru the head or the block one.

The first thing I noticed was the shape of the up pipe. Looks just like the Cat. After that I recalled the carb opposite side thing.

Post it over on the Cat board and see if they don't jump all over it.

Maybe a 3cyl. diesel? are either one of the end exhaust ports blocked off? Maybe the exhaust part is used on both 3&4 cyl. engines? In other words I ain't got a clue....lol

I can't say what its off but the center intake port is where the fuel goes in it must run though the head to warm the fuel before entering the combustion chambers.

It is off a four cylinder engine so there should only be two ports to feed the CC you have three.

I wonder if the carburetor sat on top of the head and fuel mixture was routed out through the manifold and then back in?

Bet your right bout the intake air coming from the head, then each end of the manifold probably feeds 2 cyls, thats just a guess but it kinda makes sense. Well sorta..

Wasn't Essex working on a fuel saver manifold for the ETD? Maybe that's what you have.
