firing order

I know its stupid but its been awhile and I need to be sure. WD firing order is 1243. no. 1 is flywheel end or pulley end?

Had a '56 jag XK140M. They counted from the flywheel end as no.1 Firing order was 624153 Brits had to be a little different! Wrist pin was a gudgen (sp) pin, spark plug was spark coil, top was bonnet.

Might be others, but the only one I've heard of that starts at the rear is a Deutz engine. Otherwise, No. 1 is at the front.

These old engines generally conformed to system of #1 at timing end, all dot punch marks or other markings on rods, caps etc. on timing side.
