My B&S 32HP Vanguard takes 2.4 quarts according to the manual. Which should work out to 77 oz.

48 oz. Like someone said synthetic 10w-30 is a good choice.

Most Briggs engines take 20oz. for a push mower and 48oz for the bigger engines.

Whether its an OHV or valve in block, only add a quart and start checking. You will be close.

If it's a (newer) OHV engine, Mobil 1 Synthetic is GREAT to help keep the valves from sticking, causing the pushrods to get out of place, and likely destroyed.

As Bob says, use synthetic.
Briggs is very specific about matching the correct single grade of mineral oil to a specific temperature range, but they recommend multiweight synthetic oil for any load at any temperature. They even sell their own brand of synthetic engine oil
I use mobil 1 in all my small air cooled engines and love the performance and low oil consumption.

Here is a link to the Briggs oil chart.

This engine should hold somewhere around 68 oz. of oil. Use a good quality 30W oil. I use Quaker State in all my engines big or small.

When I am unsure of the exact amount I just add a little at a time and keep checking the dip stick. You should be safe to add 1 1/2 qt then start checking every little bit.
