I'm hoping one of you fine folks has been through this once already. I'm working on a '91 Buick Le Sabre back door window. The window is still on the track, but the power up and down is not working right. The window moves up and down loose and will not roll up with the motor. I took the panel off of the door for a look and there are cables that make it go up and down. The motor runs the cables but they are loose and not working the window. I'm guessing that one of the cables has jumped out of place or slipped. Anyone messed with one of these before?

I just looked it up. No cables on that model. It uses the plastic tape. This is good news as you should be able to fix it pretty cheap with just a new tape. GM has discontinued that whole regulator by the way and I think the tape too. A local dealer may have some left around or the aftermarket may too.

And yes the 2000 and up models have alot of trouble with their cable setup.

Cables? The factory GM C and H bodies in that year had an arm system in a scissor fashion with horizontal guides and the motor ran against teeth on one scissor arm.No cables

No it is definately a cable system. It is a very small steel cable. One side of the cable has a housing around it and the other is bare. Something has come loose because the cable has a lot of slack in it, but it still moves when the motor is activated in each direction. I did a quick google search. Seems that this is a very common problem, but only on the 2000-2005 Le Sabre. There are a lot of people griping about it, but nothing as to how it might be fixed other than replacing the assembly. Seems like prices range from around fifty dollars to many hundreds of dollars.

Sounds like aftermarket power windows.

Think he is talking about one of those plastic/nylon "chain" outfits that had the habit of stripping a tooth out of the chain.

Been too many years ago for me to remember tho,

Allan

if its just the nylon ribbon, you can get a universal replacement from napa. hey dont fit bad and are a lot cheaper than buying the regulator assembly from the dealer.

If I remember right, you have to replace that whole regulator.
