I am planning on buying a 180 Allis. A man at work said they are fuel guzzlers. He said the fuel consumption is more than that of a 185. Are they a bad machine? I found one for $4500 and it looks and runs good. if it drinks more fuel than a 185 I dont want it. I posted on the Allis forum and recieved just one answer. The trasctor is diesel.

According to the Nebraska tests, the 180 was rated at 15.24 horsepower hours per gallon of diesel fuel. This is about mid range for effiency for all diesel tractors. Oddly, the 185 and 190 were not tested at Nebraska Test Lab. This is virtually the same efficiency as an Oliver Super 88 diesel... Gene

Just wanted to add a few thoughts based on my expirience running several brands and models of tractors. Things like clean fuel and air filters, proper injection timing, having the right size tractor for the job and having implements properly adjusted can make a world of difference in fuel consumption. Also sometimes a tractor with a small fuel tank or an inaccurate gauge can give the impression of poor fuel economy.

They had the same motor as the 185 just set for less HP. I totally agree with Traditional Farmer, they were a good tractor. We run a 190 XT and a 200 , same motor but Turbo and of course more HP. They both are very good on fuel. If it is hard on fuel it's only because someone has messed with the pump and its not set right. Lots of people had the pumps turned up on the 180. My neighbor bought 2 new ones back in the 70's. They're still going strong today.

180 diesels were good tractors and would burn less fuel than the 185 that had the 301 engine.
