I had some work done at a local massey dealer and stopped in to check on the tractor, when there I picked-up a 2.5 gallon of Agco 80w-90 and asked him to add it to my final bill.

It appears I was overcharged a great deal for the oil, but before I go in there and raise a stink I was wondering what the going rate is for gear oil from Agco. Maybe they aren't interested in selling oil and have it priced so nobody will buy it. I know that sounds ridiculous but for what they charged me nobody would ever buy gear oil from him again.

I usually buy 80W90 from the NewHolland guy near my farm and it runs about $31.00 per 2.5 gal jug.

Thanks for any help, always appreciated....

PS: Please, Please send rain to Kentucky. Nobody has enought hay for make it through the winter and the stockyards are FULL with cattle, prices are dropping.

What did you end up paying for it? I bought (2) 5 gallon pails and a 2 gallon jug from Fleet Farm and I pai over $100 for just that. Can't remember the exact cost though.

Don't know what you bought and don't know what you paid. Pretty hard to evaluate the deal. Tom

Ok I was embarrassed to actually admit that I didn't study the invoice hard enough before I paid it....BUT what I bought was standard 80W90 Gear oil, nothing special, just off the shelf gear oil. Labled Agco, bought from a Massey dealer.

Price on invoice was $125.00 exactly for a 2.5 gallon jug.

I was just wondering if anybody else bought gear oil from Agco dealers and what they paid.

I guess I got robbed, I'm going today to discuss it with him, I'm hoping it was a mistake.

That's gotta be a mistake. no way they can sell oil for that price. If not, bring them the jug and say you want your money back.

you say 80-90 but if you were at Agco then you might have a Massey that uses 80-90 mineral oil and that's high. why didn't you say what you paid

That's only $3.10 a quart. Good quality gear oil has always been higher than motor oil.

I don't think they make bad gear oil.....As most producers will provide the same oil under 3 diffrent names. you gotta look for the oil rating. when buying engine oil even the cheepest of oil will have a oil rating that meets or exceeds todays car requirements. In all my cars/trucks I run castrol syntec 5w-50 6 bucks a quart, but i dont need to change my oil till it starts to get dirty, or 12,000 miles. I NEVER had a oil related problume, plus it will pour like a 5 weight and proctect against heat and visicosity breakdown like a 50 weight. Now if you have a oil leak run the cheep stuff. In all my farmalls I run 10-40 even in the winter as my tractors are inside. I wont run synthectic in the old tractors as they are not fuel injected and as a result there is more cylinder wash from gasoline.
