farm thefts in England

This is becoming a real problem here in recent years as the farms have fewer workers and everyone is out in the fields during the daytime. A unmarked van will drive in, if there is no-one around the workshop gets emptied of power tools and generators etc. Its so easy with sliding doors in the side of the van. They steal ATV's and then come back a few weeks later to steal the new replacement bought with the insurance payout!
The other trick is having 45 gallon steel drums in the vans, drive up to the diesel tank, cut off the locked fuel nozzle and fill up the drums in a couple of minutes. Worst is when their drums are full they drive off leaving the diesel running out of the pipe all over the yard.
The scrap men have hydraulic cranes on their trucks and will pick up implements left on the roadside of fields, lift up and over the hedge and are away in minutes. Farm theft here has become a major problem.

It's all part of a vast worldwide conspiracy, boys. After they steal our gas and take down the road signs, we'll be lost and can't escape the black helicopters of the One World Government. Then, we'll have to walk to the Arab-owned convenience store to get more gas for our ATVs - and pay with rupies or chips embedded in our foreheads. I heard it from the guy that invented the 200-mpg carburetor. We all know what happened to him, he still walks funny. Now, do you want to know who's controlling the weather?

Err... no. Basically they can't be bothered with rural areas.

I'm just 40 miles from central London and there's no local policeman assigned to this patch. We've been told this is because it's a low crime area. third party image

The latest scam round here is stripping the roadside of all the aluminium road signs to sell for scrap metal. So far they've done Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire and are probably heading north now. Last count there were 90,000 signs missing.

As for shooting thieves, that was tried by a farmer called Tony Martin after he got fed up being burgled and the police taking no action. One of the thieves, with a criminal record as long as your arm, was killed by Mr Martin's shotgun. Martin ended up in jail, despite a huge amount of public sympathy.

Basically thieves can do what they like, as it's only petty crime.

hey we have farm "thefts" here as well, only it is lenders borrowing more to farmers than they KNOW they can repay in the term, give em a variable interest rate that they KNOW will only go up. Then eventually "steal" the family farm. Oh, we have the same thefts you are talking about. I am installing cameras with motion detectors on them, you have to these days.

A neighbor caught 2 kids stealing gas last week. They took a cordless drill and punched a hole in the bottom of his 34 gallon gas tank (on his truck) They were filling a single ONE gallon jug with gas for their moped. The rest ran out on the ground.

Parents of the 2 kids were irate because the neighbor pointed a gun at them. They want the neighbor charged.

Naw the politicians took their guns away and told them that It's not ok to protect yourself and your property, your supposed to just give the thieves everything. Guess maybe it is like here in this county where the judge owns the probation company which means everyone gets probabtion that htye have to pay.

Guys I hate it for you over there having to put up with that stuff. hopefully one day the politicians will realize that honest folks are not the ones they have to worry about being armed.

That's sick !! Perhaps it's time to lock your shop doors and place "surveilance" cameras to record the thieves/maybe even get their license number ? Don't the "constables" patrol your area ? We certainly sympathize with you and hope the felons get caught !! Cheers ! ...Jim B.
