What do you guys do? I was playing in the yard with my Niece on her electric Jeep and me on my golf cart.I have a big yard full of tractors and such stuff, much like most of us on here I would wager. Saw the three new neighbor kids just looking at us like they were dying to come play too. The problem is twofold. One of course is the liability concern but on top of that the parents do not speak much english so if a problem developed it would really be a problem. It does hurt my heart though to see those kids that would love to play and can't. Anyone have a solution?

Well Chris, I certainly am amused at your post about your new neighbors. I might suggest that you do the correct neighborly deed and try to learn their non-english spoken language. After all that is what most want -to- feel good do gooders do, don't you know ? You have my full support with this very real and widespread "New American" problem, and please report back on this subject when you have completed this mission of charity. Best of luck to you Chris!!! Thanks for sharing. third party image:shock: third party imagethird party image:lol: third party image

Thanks for the encouragement. You are right about doing what I feel is right. I brought home my hayride cart this afternoon from the farm where we give hayrides at our show. I am going to invite the whole family for a ride around the neighborhood and my yard just to get to know them better. The oldest girl is 10 or so and I bet she can act as an interpreter as we need. I will just have to get a couple ground rules across to them that they can only be in the yard if they see us and ask first.etc. Thanks for the encouragement guys. I HATE feeling that I cannot make friends with childern these days. I have such good memories of visiting older neighbors when I was growing up and would like to pass that down to the next generation. Not the fearmongering that the media pushes nowdays.

We have a rule that our kids can't go to an other kids house until we meet their parents, just what to get a feel for the supervision they'd have. However, other kids are free to come here anytime, where we can supervise. I'd invite the kids over, but make sure they know what areas and things are off limits without an adult there. I would try to talk to the parents the best I could, they'll pick up some english, and there's other ways to communicate. Good luck, maybe you'll make good friends.

Its early in the morning and I might be sounding off too much but.....If your going to live your life worrying about be sued you might as well crawl into a hole and die. This whole world is so scared they even have to take their shoes off at the airport. Open up, and live life like you want too. Life has its risks, so wave those kids over and treat them like your own. If later they prove other wise, then send them back.

Sorry if this is too strong, not meant for you as much as for the whole human race wanting safty at cost of their freedom. Kenny in Colorado

Well said, Ken. Guess I'm on the fence on the immigrant thing- "illegal" or not, many are very good people, and will make excellent neighbors. I'd go meet the folks, maybe taking an "interpreter" with you (ask around- you'd be surprised how many young folks these days can speak enough Spanish to communicate).

Why don't they speak much English? Are they Mexicans?

Yeah, my neighbors happen to be a bunch of migrant workers now. DAM*ED if they set foot on my property.

Uh-oh.

I might've started trouble.

It's just a rant.

And a very good rant too.

I'd probably invite them. If it feels like I should do something like that I normally do.

As to liability, 'been there, done that' thats what I pay liability insurance for. If someone gets hurt and sues me for doing the right thing, so be it. Happened before, ins company pays for the lawyer, all it ended up costing me was a little time.

My solution would be, go meet the neighbors and let the kids play together.

I'd don't have any solution, but if it helps any:

Love to have you for a neighbor, we need more people like you in the world.

I also would invite them over and goo say hi to the parents. Playing together would help them learn english and your grandaughter would probably learn some spanish. Liability is included in you homeowners insurance, We showed our tractors at a labor day event Saturday and my greatest thrill was allowing kids to get up on them and play farming. Many pictures of kids on my tractors. I guess I am an old fuzzy softee. Henry
