I am cancelling Ferrell gas, I dont like getting raked over the coals. Ferrell wants $1.95/gallon (that was months ago) I threw their letter in the trash. I am letting my tank run near empty, I only got about 50 gallons or so left. There is a supplier near me that will sell me propane for $1.59/gallon. I need to call them this week and get their tank set in place. Gotta buy corn too for the corn stove.

You guys are making me sick!! I am a "small user" less than 100 gallons a year, just for cooking. The local company came by last week and topped off my tank, just under 35 gallons at $4.19. About the only difference between that and grill tanks is the convenience. Of course being in Vermont and about at the end of the supply line doesn't help either. Fortunately it is beginning to cool off enough that we can use the wood cookstove occasionally, and will have it running full time in another two months.

I had em fill my tanks a week or so ago. Just opened the bill, buck fifty eight. I assume it will raise when they start drying corn. Still pretty cheap. I pay $20 bucks a month all summer for my house in town, (natural gas) and all that is running is the water heater and bake a pizza on Sat night.

I am lucky 2 miles out of town but do have natural gas. I think the highest bill was about $145 one month. 1800 ft house

Contracts offered locally (south central Kansas) were for $1.65 per gallon with a cash discount given if paid within 10 days.

I don't use much and take my chances on the ups and downs and am most often the winner since a tankful will do me for the winter.

Last year I was paying $2.19 a gal. I don't know what it will be this year, but,I really don't care.I now have an outdoor wood burner. All the wood I will ever need is right here on the farm.I know it is alot more work. But,I will never spend $450.00 a month on gas for the chainsaw.

OH YEAH, I FORGOT TO TELL YA in reply to midwest redneck, 09-02-2007 04:06:36
Several years ago I watched an Amerigas driver (who was filling my neighbors 500 gallon tank) smoking a cigarette while filling the tank. I said to the guy "arent you afraid of igniting the gas" He says doesnt matter and then he takes his smoke and lit the gas off the escape valve and ignites it., then shut the valve and the torch stopped. I am not even kidding here I was amazed at how stupid this guy was. So, if you ever talk to anybody at your propane supplier be sure to ask that your driver doesnt smoke, and has common sense.

I think that only works in the movies the lighting with a cigarette.. but you are quite right about being concerned of the danger of smoking while doing that..

Ferrel is trying to get out of the rural midwest market. If you want to buy from them, you will be paying as much as double from the competition. Their theory is we'll either leave or screw ya, your choice.

PS - If you need one, they have LOTS of tanks for sale at a reasonable price. Then you won't be tied to any one guy.

I've seen prices in western Ohio ranging from $1.499 to $2.599 / gallon, depending on gross yearly gallons to who-you-know in the business.
Doesn't seem to be any particular pattern, so my suggestion is to shop for the best price. Almost any company will be willing to set you a pig tank to 1000 gallon tank in a few days. Watch the tank rent !!! It might pay to get your own !

Redneck,

I have locked in a price with AllService Propane in Franklin, TN for 1000 gallons at $1.99 per gallon. I own my own tank so I shop around each year for the best price. Amerigas is asking $2.25 per gallon. A couple of other local suppliers are offering it for around $2.10 per gallon. AllService comes out at least once a month to top off the tank and will come within one day if I call and ask them to make a separate trip.

I don't know why propane is so much more expensive in my area than it is in most of the midwest, but each year we pay more than you guys do.

Good luck,

Tom in TN

Just switched Friday. Ferrellgas is gone and FS is in. I thought it would be an hour or so project. No way. Brought the wrong valve to get my gas out. Had to go back and get another one. On the way back his compressor knocked his back window out. 5 hrs later done. I think it will be well worth the trouble. $1.57
