What is the expeced life (hrs.) of those Kohler two cylinder engines they put on the large lawn mowers? Do you rebuild or replace?

Kohler twin KT17 early series has got a minor reputation for short life- weak lower end/splash oiling not good enough, side tilting meant low oil- possible broken rod, especially if user didn't have full crankcase. Later twins with full pressure oiling corrected problem. RN

I have "heard" through a buddy that worked at a small engine repair shop that the new Kohler twins will easily run 2500 hrs. if they have been given any kind of maintainence. At that point, they are typically rebored and rebuilt.

You rebuild. They're a considerbly higher quality engine than Briggs & Stratton.

Depends on which line of Kohler & which line of Briggs. The later and best Briggs are the Generac design version.

A new 20 hp Kohler Command was $1800 or so at Northern.

Saw that price in the new Northern Catalog. I was thinking I paid A LOT LESS than that for a Troyblt with a 19 horse Kohler in it??
