I a helping a friend with his 1959 Ride-A-Matic 230 garden tractor. I have the engine running but don"t have a clue what the linkages should be for the transmission. This tractor has one chain and three chain sprockets on each end. Is this some type of derailer system? The belts move and the chain runs but the transmission isn't engaged. Should there be another control arm which goes back to the sprocket cluster in the rear that engages the "clutch?"

the three sprockets are low to high from the farthest out in there is a pin on the back wheel that you need to push in to lock the chain the back gear box.I have a 1958 so i don't know if they're the same.
the pin goes in a hole in a disk at the end of the wide part of the frame.

Looking at the rider from the back, is the pin on the right wheel or left wheel, or neither? Is the pin in the one inch hole on the differential cover? On this gear arrangement, there is a fixed pin on the rear sprocket (the sprocket with the three gears). Thanks for your help.
