i found out the tractor i bought (JD 2140) has a rear end problem, clutch packs are bad, the PTO will stop when it gets a load on it, and the lift leaks down really bad with a heavy implement when you cut the engine off. so right now i don't want to use the PTO or lift in fear of overheating the oil, but should it be ok to drive the tractor and use the hydraulic remote outlets? they still work ok.

I don't believe the leaky lift will overheat the oil... it may just lack some strength. Remotes should be fine.

I've put pto clutch packs in a 2240.. not sure how similar that is to a 2140?

It wasn't an ez job.. but it was doable with some help and tools.. etc.

More work to split it than to actually remove/reinstall all those media covered discs..
