A week ago tonite, we had a rain and thunder storm that knocked out our power about 10 PM. Power Co. truck showed up about 2 AM and changed fuse on pole and when they closed it, it blew again. They checked transformer and it was out. A diferent truck showed up about 4 AM with a new transformer and they put it in and we got power back. TV in basement and bedroom don't work, sat tv is out and sat for computer is out. Called insurance man in the AM and told him what had happened and he said to find out if tv's were fried and have sat's fixed or replaced. Monday afternoon, sat man came and replaced receiver for tv and got that working. Replaced everything for wildblue except the dish itself and then found out the computer don't work. I finally got my old one back to use till I find out how bad the other one is. I missed you guys and am glad to be back. Don't know yet if I lost all of my pictures from Greenville, Ill. show or not. Chris

Insurance co.what a rip off. Actually I had the same thing to happen 3 times and finally had the electrical company to install a surge protector at the meter for $150.00 to cover the entire house and haven't had a problem since. Of course this still doesn't cover it from entering through satellite or cable tv

Alot of times, when a T.V. gets spiked by lightning/electrical spikes, it's just a diode inside of them and is a fairly easy, inexpensive job to fix.

On higher $$$ items that might have a couple or few thousand $$$ invested in like computer, it sure does pay to invest a hundred $$$ or so into a UPS from best buy, comp usa, or the sort. Its much cheaper to have to replace one of them for a hundred $$$ or so, than a computer or such. A ups will filter dirty power or spikes into your equipment anyway, and provide an orderly shutdown during a power loss in case you"re in the middle of something you don"t want to lose before saving. Those surge suppressors one can buy at a grocery store for $5 or $10 aren"t worth much. Consider it.

Glad you"re back on the road again. As for what you"ve missed...I"m getting as much overtime per week as straight time, not of my choice, and haven"t seen you there, so I guess that you"re missing out on that.

Have the computer totaled. It does not pay to repair one that got a load of juice. Over the next months, things in it will die even if the fix it. Take the insurance & get a new one. The old one would only be problems - 9 out of 10. Most insurance & computer places already understand & do this automatically.

I had a similier mess in 94 after an ice storm knocked out my power. Fried two TV's,micro wave, freezer, kids vidio games and several other things. My insurance wouldn't pay a dime. Said my policy didn't cover acts of God. If that is the case no insurance should be any good if the insurance folks believe in God. How is this possible? I have wondered ever since and changed insurance companies.

What's the name of your Insurance Company ???? I have AARP Hartford Insurance -- and they will not pay for Electronic Failer ... When you buy Insurance --- it's good to read your policy or at least ask questions and get the right answers you want covered ...

YES -- you did miss out on Checking Out !!!!

FB insurance. The small print didn't matter. It said I was covered, but they determined that since the house was on a farm that I only leased instead of owning that my policy would not cover acts of God. Had I owned the house they said it would have been covered. The policy made no mention of this in any fashion.

Seems to me... If it"s not permissable to pray to God in school or trust in God in government, then the insurance companies should not be allowed to blame their losses on God either!!

Scotty, that was my position, but that didn't seem to matter to them. I cancled my policy on the spot and demanded a refund. Have not been in their place since.

Good for you! Insurance Companies are the single biggest rip offs we can't seem to live without.
Typically you pay tens of thousands of dollars to them over time and when you need them they tell you your policy doesn't cover your loss. What theivery!! And if they do have to pay - they raise your rates! Don't even start on the GOD thing. You can't teach a child in school that God created the lightening storm but, apparently you can teach it to an insurance adjuster....
