I had a ford temp that did that. Found out that right behind the ignition switch on the steering column there what a block cluster of wires that had an aluminum tab broken and kept coming apart. Easy place to check first. Good luck

There is a way to check the igition module, Not very scientific but its worked for me for my 87 ford that has went out a couple times. Just pour ice water on the module located on the inner fender and see if it will start again . One time i went through several iced teas and a coke to get home.

I second the module
Disconnect the connectors and slide them back and forth in the sockets and wiggle them.
If still a problem then go to a junk yard and try another.
They go by the color of plastic where the wires go inside.
You could borrow a friends ,if they had the same color, as a test.

Sounds like the electronic ignition control module is bad. No way to check them unless you go to the dealer and have them put it on the diagnostic machine. Some auto parts stores will do this for free. Autozone is one.
