Has anyone with Titan rear tractor tires had problems with the side walls splitting apart? These tires are 13.6x28, 6 ply, long bar/short bar. They are a little over a year old and have 10 hours on them. Heck you can still read the 13.6 x 28 that is molded in the lugs. They were put on the tractor just before I bought it. Thanks!

I put Titans (14.9x38) on my JD70 back in 2001. The tractor doesn't get worked much at all. It's kept in the barn, taken to shows, pulls, parades, etc. In 2003, I noticed fine sidewall cracks developing, not enough to cause a failure but I didn't expect to see anything like that so soon. I agree with below--Firestone.

We've got a set of Titans on the back of our Massey 165, can't remember the size but I think it's a 14.9-28. It's got a loader on it and the tires see a lot of manure. I think they've been on for a good 7-8 years if not more and they're just starting to get some fine cracks in them from being almost constantly exposed to the manure. Still have plenty of life left on them.

They're the long bar/short bar design that used to be Armstrong's.
We've had Good Year's last less than that and have the tread completely separate from the carcass.

I put a Titan on the front of my 7610 Ford that I use to fence with. It has a 585 Allied loader on it and the post driver on the rear. I paid 118.00 for it and drove 6 miles to a job and there was a knot big as a baseball came up on the inner sidewall and rubbed the spindle. I took it off and went back to town and they told me tough. No refund or replacement as my loader caused it, according to them. I have not and will not ever buy another Titan. Or any kind from that store again. It was an 8 ply tire.

My similar experience had the tire dealer telling me I'd run the tires flat. Didn't happen, still full of antifreeze they'd put in. Did have to find a new tire dealer- who didn't push Titans. Garbage in my experience.

Not to that extreme, but nearly every one I'v had has had the sidewall fail, or a blowout of some sort unrelated to punctures. Armstrong was the same.
I learned two words. Firestone. Michelin.
You pay for tires, or you pay to fix Titan's.

Titan has struggled with quality issues since taking over from Armstrong. I really prefer not to sell them and they still manage to keep me busy just trying to keep the OE ones running. The good news is that Titan is easy to work with on adjustments. I guess the all the practice makes them good at it. Find a Titan dealer to look at them.

I thought I read that Titan took over Goodyears ag tire division. Wasn't that long ago that I read it. I have one titan on a 4wd tractor 23.1x30 and it is one of the best ag tires I have seen so far. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more if I need them.

Thanks, iowa tire guy. I talked to one dealer already. He needs an invoice to take care of the warranty. Unfortunately the previous owner did not give me any papers for the tires and he no longer lives in the state of Iowa from what I have been told. BTW, where are you in Iowa? If you give me your email addy I will send you photos of the side walls and you can tell me what you think. If I could figure out how to post them on here I would so everyone could see.

If you don't have the sales receipt you can also use the production date molded into the tire but the adjustment is prorated by time so you will lose a year or two that way. It is better than nothing and I have found Titan to be generous. I am in SE Iowa near Mt Pleasant. I think I opened my email. If not I will try again.

Titan bought out the Goodyear Ag tire division last year. It was a sad day for Goodyear dealers and they have had nothing but grief since.

Also not every Titan tire is a bad one. The problem is that their failure rate is way too high. I am at the point that from a quality of product standpoint I would rather sell a Chinese tire than a Titan because I have never seen an import tractor rear fail.

I've got titans on my tractor (oem) and they haven't cracked yet on the rear but the fronts are getting some. It may be from overloading them though.

The biggest enemy of tires is the sun. That is why you see campers with bonnets over their tires. The small cracks in the sidewalls of tires usually come from exposure to the sun and really are not a problem other than looks. The bigger cracks come from the belts of the tire breaking and that means it's useful life is soon over. These cracks usually start at the lug because that is where the most strain is when the tire is pulling.
