i recently bought a 1999 jd 6210 with 3400 hours. all seems well, however, on its maiden voyage, i noticed the transmission lights (2) on on the dash. i changed both transmission filters and the trans fluid seems fine. with the new filters on, the filter change light went off, then on again, and the top (red) light stays on continually. they are both on again. anyone have any ideas what the problem might be. also the fuel gauge does not work. help

Well, you've got the trans pressure light and filter restriction light on. Could be something as minor as failed senders, but really sounds like a mechanical failure. I'd start by removing the transmission filter (frontmost filter) and cutting it open. Look for pieces of iron. next step would be to drain the oil into clean pails and remove the suction screen and check for debris. The brakes on these tractors will commonly fail if they are run with moisture in the hyd oil, which I think may be your problem. Even if you don't find any debris, I'd still recommend having the trans and lube pressures checked by your dealer. Usually the fuel gauge sender is what fails. If this is a cab tractor, you can replace it by removing the access plate in the bottom of the cab floor. If it's an open station, fuel tank has to be slid outwards, best to wait until it is almost empty.

The part that concerns me is that you say the filter light went out after changing the filter and then came back on, sounds like debris plugging the filter. Don't panic just yet as some of those 6000 ten series tractors did have issues with the trans and filter senders. I've seen that problem once, on a 6310, but the filter light was still on immediatly after changing the filters. Post back with your serial number and I'll see if I can find a serial number range for the tractors with the bad senders.

Who did you purchase this tractor from? They knew full well there was a problem and "forgot" to tell you.
Did test drive the tractor prior to purchase and run it on a dyno or pulling some heavy tillage equipment?
I've had some people trying to sell various machines. Suddenly become evasive when I mentioned a dyno run, even if I paid for the testing.

bought from a pennsylvania dealer on consignment from another. i test drove it, but because it was sunny, i may not have noticed the lights. ran fine, sounds fine, just the trans lights. no dyno test done, but everythngs seems strong. it is used though.
