Is there any Honda motorcycle mechanics on this board? I have a Honda 750 Custom. It only has spark on 1&4. If I switch the power leads on the coils, it will spark on 2&3. so I know the coils are good. I can switch the leads of the cd packs and get spark from one set of plugs to the other. So I have determined that the cd units, the coils and the pulsar unit behind the cover on the left side of the motor are good. When I hook everything up as it belongs, I have no spark on 2&3. Could the kill switch assembly be at fault or maybe the key switch?

From your description, it sounds like you've proven the CD unit or pickup coil isn't good actually.

You can go a little slower on your wire swapping and identify which one it is.

How are the plug wires? Not trying to be a smart a$$, but I had the same problem my '81 Suz GS850. Had spark to 3 plugs but the 4th had zero. Beat my head against the wall trying to figure it out. Then I noticed that someone had put a new spark plug boot on the plug with no spark. Further investigation proved that core of the wire was not contacting the little metal clip that goes onto the spark plug. All I did was trim back some insulation so the clip went on further and I had spark then. BTW nice looking Honda. I wish I could get back in the saddle. My last bike was a Shadow ACE VT1100. What a ride!

I have been working on the ignition system on my 74,750 and one thing you may look at is the timing on the 2-3 side of the ignition plate. There is two areas you have to time seperatly,1-4 is timed ,then 2-3 side is timed. It sounds like your 2-3 side is dead.I'm not sure how the electronic ignition is set up but there maybe some component that has weakened.Switch the two wires from the ignition and see if the 2-3 has steady fire at the plugs.

Check wireing diagram for pickup units- do you have 2 trigger units? this is acting like earlier points setup with one bad set of points. Check wire from ignition trigger/pickup unit to coils, maybe break in one set. RN

I've had my 750 since the day after I graduated from high school, 5.19.1974. The most troublesome areas I've had to deal with was synchronizing the carbs (had a mechanic do that for me) and the dual point set-up....I think a good place to start would be checking the points. A few years ago I replaced the coils with a hotter set, I believe they are 40,000 volt along with some solid copper plug wires which helped alot. I'm not sure, just something to look at. Good luck, Mike.
