I'm building a rock wall, 40' long and 5' high. I dumped a load of rocks on top of the wall just before I quit for the night.

The next morning the rocks were gone. Some one stole the rocks.

This is not a high crime area. Many don't even lock their doors.

I just can't get my mind around stealing a load of rocks. You can't just put a load of rocks in your poctet and walk away. This had to involve a truck and a lot of noise. I guess I've finally seen it all.

coloflyboy: A neighbor near by put his old hand push mower out for the garbage man. Three weeks went by and the garbage man never took the mower, neither did anyone else. Finally after all that time he decided to put a for sale sign on the mower. That night someone stole the mower.

Soon as you put the rocks on the wall, that increased the value. Had you left them on the cart, who knows, you may still have them.

It's hard to believe someone would go to that much trouble for a load of rocks.

In the early 80's prior to joining the military. The foreman at the shop that I worked at used to have a camper...not a Winnebago, but that kind/size. He used it to go on fishing trips with and usually only made short trips, thus not needing the extra fuel tank but needed more holding tank capacity for the lavatory. He came in to work gagging and laughing one morning. He went out to get in the car, and noticed a gas can sitting by the camper. On further investigation he found a hose stuffed in the "fuel" tank and a spot of vomit. As he walked towards the street he found two more splots of vomit. I don't think that the gas thief that siphoned on the extra lavatory holding tank stole any gasoline for a while.

I remember years ago, my brother in law was catching a lot of heat from my sister for forgetting to put the garbage out by the curb for pickup. Being a resourceful fellow, he put it all in a couple boxes, and, it being the Christmas season, wrapped them in festive paper and put them out by the curb in random fashion, like they had fallen out of a vehicle. Of course, someone stopped and picked them up almost immediately.

And now. . . the REST of the story. The next morning, the bursted boxes and their contents were all over his lawn. Undaunted, he re-wrapped them, and this time, waited until nightfall to haul them several blocks away, and put them in front of the home of a fellow with whom he had had some disagreements over the years. That was the last he saw of that particular offering.

These storys are so funny. I don't remember who told me this, but they had been fishing and caught a ton of fish. After hours of cleaning fish he placed the guts, heads, skin, and bones in a big box and with a felt pin wrote "UPS in the morning" on the box and put it in the back of his pickup. The next morning the box was gone!

My grandparents farmed in northeast Colorado. It's a place where doors aren't locked and vehicles had keys left in them. When my grandparents moved to town when they retired, stuff was stolen frequently from their place in the country. They even had a merry-go-round anchored in the ground that was taken and that took a tractor and truck to move...

My Dad's Plymouth Fury wagon was stolen when I was a kid. He, of course, spent the next several years looking at cars to see if he could find it. About 8 years later when we were in the parking lot of a store and he saw one just like it, had the same scratches as his. He called the police and got his car back!

2 years ago, the wife HAD to have a new living room suite. I put the couch out by the road on a wagon with a FREE sign on it. 2 days later, no takers. I took a page from my dad and put a sign on it that said $50. Someone took it that night.

Any description on those rocks? I'll keep an eye out!

My sister is a nurse at a hospital and was working the 3rd shift. Went out to her Explorer next morning in guarded hospital parking lot. Engaged starter...nothing. Got a co-worker to jump start battery...nothing. Long story shortened...Starter had been stolen. Only wires left hanging; thieves even took mounting bolts.

2 years ago my 27" TV puked. Went to HH Greg and bought a new one. Put the junk TV in the HH Greg box and carted it down by road. Placed it upside down so it looked like it fell out of a truck. Next AM the neighbor saw a young guy hit his brakes, jump out of his car and hurridly wrestle the thing into his car. Got rid of my junk TV.

Some people will steel anything if they think there is a value to it or they can get something they want without paying. Sorry to hear when someone has something taken really makes me "HOT"! Not going to say it's right or wrong but I know a tire dealer that at least two nights a week he places 10 or 12 scrap tires in front of his shop when he closes for the day with a sign that says ( for sale $5.00 ) and by morning they will be gone.

That reminded me about someone stealing my new weedeater once. I put up a sign in the yard and said they had forgotten the string. I placed the big spool of string in sight of the sign in hopes of catching someone getting it, but after 2 weeks no takers. I finally put the string on the back porch and the first night it vanished.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Rocks are big business in NE Pa. I had a couple big rocks I dug out while putting in my driveway years ago. I guesimate about 2 tons each. I was mowing one day and thinking what a PITA they were to mow around. A guy stopped in a new pick up truck and asked if I wanted to sell them, I said "make me an offer" He said 50 bucks for the pair. "Show me the money". He paid me and 20 minutes later a big truck with a log picker came by and plucked them right up.
ODD thing is, I have a perfectly good bed liner out of my Ford F-150 down by the road with FREE painted across the front. Hoped somebody could use it and save me landfilling it. No takers yet. Wifey said "you fool, go down and paint over the FREE paint and paint FOR SALE $50 on it. Then somebody will at least steal it!

In Morgantown, WV (college town, WVU) a banner disappeared from the side of the public saftey building. The banner measured 40'x40'. This was funny because the building is also police headquarters. Ouch.

Anything and everything can get stolen in a college town. College students are bigger thieves than just about anyone, stealing things like parking meters and john stall partitions to be "cool".

Don't know if it's a topper or not but while in the Navy I've seen guys walking around wearing someone elses underware and swearing they belonged to them.....even though they had the owners name across the back, and even worse, sometimes a huge big skidmark. Not something most people would want to claim but it just goes to show people will steal anything. Now, in your situation, if you need more rocks I know a guy that's clearing a lot and has alot of them to get rid of.....and can't seem to give them away. Of course with the size of the rocks I definately wouldn't want to tangle with anyone big enough to tote them off...LOL

It was on the news today.. someone stole an inflatable 10 by 10 foot swimming pool out of a woman's backyard. That's not the end of it. THEY ALSO STOLE THE WATER THAT WAS IN THE POOL. The ground was completely dry in the morning.

A neighbor of mine had the water stolen from his pool. (Since it was an in-ground pool, they would have had a hard time stealing the pool itself.) We figure the thief was a tanker truck driver for an outfit that delivers water for swimming pools.

Folks will steal anything that is not nailed, locked or tied down.. When you think about it, what a dumb bunch of crooks, stealing rocks, instead of cash from an armored car, or gold from Ft. Knox.. I bet they would be the laughing stock of the prison, doing time for stealing rocks...

30+ years ago, I knew a guy that had an 800 pound wrecking ball stolen from his yard..

Sorry that you were a victim of those lowlife crooks...
