I got my winter contract letter from Ferrellgas this week. For a $36.00 fee they will guarantee the price for LP gas won't go over $2.089 this winter. They said if I was to get my tank filled today the price would be $1.939. I paid $1.649 last winter. The only other suppliers around here are Hicks and Amerigas and from what I hear they're about the same in pricing and service. Have heard good and bad about them both. What is everyone else doing about LP this year?

I've been reading stuff on this site for several years and always heard negative about Ferrellgas. I buy mine from a mom and pop outfit and have always been satisfied, this year my prepay is $1.79. These people are the cheapest in my area and they are honest, sorry to say they're not available in your area. You have options, shop around.

Ferrellgas now owns Blue Rhino, the small propane tank exchange company. I never have used Ferrellgas as a supplier, but rarely do I read anything complimentary about the company. That indicates problems.

I find the Blue Rhino thing a little hard to believe. Apparently there are many people who would rather pay $16.99 to exchange their empty tank for a full one, than to go to a supplier and pay about 7 bucks to fill their tank. Lotsa folks with a lot more money than sense, I guess.

Ferrellgas, Amerigas, Empire gas, Heritage gas(a new name for an old company everyone hated) Freeman gas etc all all in cahoots as far as I can determine. I have heard that several of them or more all owned by the same people out of Wyoming or Montana. The prices will vary a few cents and if you want to change company you are faced with a setup fee, new tank rent charges etc. I just installed a new electric furnace and intend to do away with gas. I know the electric companies are regulated by Public Utilities commissions, Many such as ours are cooperatives and will pay dividends when you cash out. We here in this small community at the end of NC get the highest of prices. Also pay tank rent and have to take delivery at their time or pay a 30 cent per gal surcharge. See ya later. Gotta get busy

I got the same $36 fee and $1.94 pricing. Well I aint paying the $36 fee and I will be changing companies this fall. A place near me will set me up on a will call basis for $1.60/gallon. (I remember when it was 96 cents a gallon back in 2001) Good thing I got that corn burner.

Is Ferrellgas even in business anymore? Most people in this area rolled their Ferrellgas tank into the ditch by the road when they hit $3.79 a gallon last year. I haven't seen a Ferrellgas truck in months.

Where are you located?

Lp here is 5 cents higher then last year for prepay gallons.

Summer fill is $1.46.

With 50 cents per gallon prepay you are holding a price not to exceed $1.60 with the balance due at time of fill up this winter.

This is in SE Iowa

Gary:

Who do you buy from locally? I haven't received a prepay deal from my supplier yet. They are on Hwy 6 between Tiffin and Coralville.
