The spring wheat when I swathed it I thought would be lucky if it made 30 bushels per acre. It actually yielded 60 bu. per acre and I had a small 2 acre field that went 70. It was so dry here in so. Mn. I can't believe it. It was a different variety than I used to plant. And its short height fooled me. This was Knutson and I used to plant Oxen. I have about 18 acres to combine yet and I cannot wait to see how that yields. Swathed it today and will combine it Monday.

Many years ago I had an old farmer tell me. Dry years will scare you, but,a wet year will kill you.

Best Wheat in NEMO was about 90 Bu/ac average was around 60-65 bu/ac pretty good considering everybody thought the easter freeze took care of most of it there was a guy about 15 miles away that the insurance zeroed some of his wheat out and he turned 500 acres under and put it in corn. This was about a normal yield for around here the straw was short though.

1 bushel wheat/soybeans (60#) = 27.22 (27) kilograms

Does this help.

Thanks Walt. Most crops here in Australia would be stretched to get to 30 bushels I would say.

Most of the oats here in SE MN around me is going around 100 BU with good test weight. It musta had enough moister to make the yield before everything dryed out. I have a field of oats to combine on Monday. The guy that swathed it said it looked good with lots of straw. At least its one bright spot this summer. If it does'nt rain soon the corn and beans are going to be sad harvest.

Scott did you miss all the rain that went thru NE Iowa last week. Must of developed south of you.

How far north of the border are you?

Gary

I'am about 10 miles from the border. About 7 miles SW of Preston MN. The south end of the farm got 2/10 and the other end 0. I watched and listened to those storms form for two nights in a row. There has been rain all around me but not here. The weather guessers are forecasting 80% chance of heavy rain tonight but it looks to be headed into WI. Last rain was 1 1/2 June 21. We've had dry years but I or dad before me never had to feed beef cows before November. Also never bought hay always had extra to sell until this year. With no rain it looks like I will be feeding the home herd in about 10 days. Have'nt figured out just what I'am going to feed them yet tho. Things can turn in a hurry tho, might be putting creek fences back in tomorrow morning.

Long cool spring, those small grains do very well - build up their root system. My oats looked so bad, was thinking of planting something else. Sure came on strong then at the end. Hope to combine Monday.

Yea it is dry here. Corn is rolling up on these cool days, going to be sad when the 90+ come the next few days. Seem to miss what little rain has come the past week.
