20 years ago I spent time camping in the rock pit north of Northport with the DNR, working on fires in the area. If it was my kid doing wild land fires I would rather have them working with the DNR than some of the other agenies. The DNR has had a good safety record, but fire fighting is no walk in the park.

My daughter is a Wildland Fire Fighter for DNR (Dept. of Nat. Resources), on a Helitack crew- they get helicoptered in, and do ground work as well as support for helicopter bringing in water in big buckets. She was on the Wenatchee fire last week, and called home, apparently just to shoot the breeze. She was back home, in Ellensburg, when she called, and mentioned that she wrecked her cell phone- it got wet when she was wading in an irrigation canal. After the conversation, wife and I put two and two together, and figure she called so we could hear her voice and know she was OK, because when we turned on the news, we found out there were two firefighters injured in that fire that day. We're also wondering if they had a flare-up and had to run for it- why else would they be going through an irrigation canal? Its a dangerous business, but she loves it. Mom's and my hair just gets grayer.

LOL, LOL. Iam w/ Tom on this...

Our area burned last October. This is in Twin Pines, Cal. It is/was called the Cabazon fire, it's where the 4 firefighters died. My place which is just a dirt, brush, equipment and storage, did'nt burn. I had parked my 2 tractors in the 200' X 150' clearing. Others were not as fortunate and lost it all.

All of this to say, yep, the season is upon us. These things can be started even by a weed eater with a string trimmer causing rocks to spark! be careful.

One thing (good?), many of the Rattlers (snakes) are gone. (must have gone to Oregon, haha)...sl

Wayne, keep posting, we need news of the north.

C'mon Guys,

I understand wayne2's post very well. This might be the first one I've ever understood, but this one makes very good sense if you read it slowly and carefully.

Thanks for the update Wayne.
