I am looking for some help in locating a header height control to install on my F2 Gleaner combine. Does anyone have any info on where to find one, or who I could contact? My local dealer is not much help.

Do either of you know where I could get a manual or book that shows information about the height control?

You didn't say where you were, but I have gotten Gleaner parts here.

Salvage yard.

My junker F has one, but it didn't work right, so not going to waste your time.... Would have the cable & such if you can't find one of those.

I am located in central Indiana. I have been to El Paso before, it is about 3 hours from me. I am new to the Gleaners so I am not sure what all is involved with the height control.

By modern standards the F header control is pretty crude. The basic system is a skid plate that makes contact with a bell crank with a roller on one end and a cable to the hydraulic height control valve on the other.

The key to getting it set right is to have your helper springs adjusted properly, and the hydraulic bypass set properly. At that point all you do is put the height control lever in the float position and take off. You can adjust the height then by turning the adjusting knob on the outside of the cab.

Giant springs around the outside of the header cylinders are much needed - to lessen the weight on the whole system. John mentions these, don't forget them in putting your system together.

So, a finger bar under the header, pulls on a cable that runs up to the left side of the cab under the window, pulls a lever down which pushes a hyd valve mounted there. The valve has a threaded depth control on it for you to adjust, and some hyd hoses go back to the spool pack to send flow where it is needed to keep the header off the fingers.
