Got this idea for the chopper lock out from someone here on this board last year.

Hope there is clearance enough for that straw to pass all the machinery. :>)

Works fine- did that on my F2 over 20 years ago, but used only one brace on the left side- quarter by two angle iron. Left the drive belt on but wired it to stay away from the separator clutch. Chopper ran in beans, sometimes corn, never barley- so it was handy to keep it out of the way, and a lot less bother than removing it. Found existing holes in the side sheets and chopper frame. Never plugged up.

So the chopper will work with corn? How well? I have both a chopper and a spreader for my K and would really like to not have to switch back and forth when going between beans and corn.

Works fine as long as you follow what the op manual says- Some settings to change. Chopper drive belt needs to be set on the larger pulley to slow the speed in corn. Retract the cutter knives- is it halfway or all? Install cob shield and curtain- this is the most important, otherwise cobs will get thrown against the rear of the walkers and literally rip them to shreds.

Don't see why it wouldn't. I hate to say it, but according to your pictures, your wheat isn't big enough to give it many problems. Now, if you have a cross wind it might blow straw over to land on the support pieces and cause some to pile up, but it's certainly worth trying. BTW, you didn't send us any of that rain earlier, so keep the heat too, please.

Of course it will work. How much straw do you figure to get off a poor crop of wheat. Probably be put to better use back on the ground than under a horse. Course I suppose if the horses $hit on it all winter and then you put it back.... Prairie rule number one of continuous cropping in dryland situations (not that Allen cares) is "harvest the grain and only the grain". Number two is "maintain as much trash on the surface as possible". Number three is "replace all nutients as removed". Number four is "sell your plow to someone who won't follow rules one, two and three". Better yet, you do it your way and I'll do it my way.

When you pay a man's bills, you can start thinking about telling him how to run his deal. That's the best part of this country. Keep doin' it how you want to.
