Where have all the drawbars gone?? Have you noticed how many tractors on e-bay have a missing drawbar? Are sellers scraping them as junk or what? A tractor with no drawbar is kind of like a car with no wheels. I bid on, buy and sell a number of tractors per year, but I usually don't even bother with a tractor listed with a missing drawbar. My first thought is; If they pilferd the drawbar, what all else is missing.

I think they go to that secret place where all the owner's manuals go. They never seem to follow a vehicle at sale either.

With 3 point hitch many of them have been taken off & lost over the years. I had to find a drawbar for my JD 1010 when I bought it several years ago, found a tractor a guy was parting out & paid $75 for just the straight drawbar.

Aw right fellas, why was this not posted 18 months and 3500 dollars ago? The drawbar on mine has had the attachment point pulled oblong. I was confused when one old fella said, "Darn, looks like she has had the guts pulled clean outa her." I had no idea what he meant. Now I do... Keep up the good topics. I follow 'em religiously. I`ve seen alot of tractors that lived their lives to date attached to some sort of 3pt hitch implement and the drawbar is nothing but a fond memory. Of course you have to consider that most 3pt implements are also pto driven so it should be considered whether or not the hour meter reflects hours of operation at pto speed or simply hours that the switch was turned on but frankly I might actually rather have a tractor that had only been used to mow versus one that has seen some heavy duty plowing.

It`s fine that some of you guys would walk on by any tractor missing it`s drawbar, just potentially leaves something good for the rest of us. ;)

Around here the 3 point is getting to be a thing of the past! 30 years ago that was not true. We have 2 3-point implements, a ditch bank mower and a 8 foot blade, If it doesn't snow less than 10 hours on the blade, maybe 20 on the ditch bank mower in one year, no more plowing and cultivating.

Missing fenders, pto shields, lights or pulley covers for two cylinder Deeres are common sins too. Substituted & jerry rigged electrical switches/instruments, crude alternator conversions, wrong mufflers are also signs of nickel & dimeing. It isn't much of a paint job either if the exhaust system, plugs, wires, distributer, oil/fuel filters are painted over.

The sellers on Ebay are afraid to show you the condition of the drawbar. Thats the only reason for removal. They devalue a tractor alot when they are not installed. They are not worth much for scrap and would take more in labor to remove. I would never buy a tractor that is missing a drawbar, at all! Same way with the hours. If they are unknown, assume there is 10,000 or more. Recent motor rebuilds should have proper paperwork/bills to verify. If you can't back it up on paper, assume it didn't happen. Total rebuilds usually mean fresh paint and decals, nothing more. Maybe I've seen my share of lies, but I am one cautious person on Ebay.

If it doesn't have a drawbar, center link is missing or it has even been within earshot of a tractor pull it isn't worth even looking at.

Just somebody else's junk.

Oh, the center link isn't a big deal unless it's a 15-16 Oliver or a 2-70 white- those machines have their own verion that sin't very standard and they go nuts on ebay. Gota have a draw-bar though, but I know some just never had one. Oliver Super 55's and 550's were optional, and the smaller Fords & Fergusssons don't always have a regular draw bar. Some Farmalls as i recall don't have a regular drawbar either, but one that gos into the 2 pt. hitch instead.

I've never pulled one yet, but the prospects do sound like it could be fun if I don't go too nuts, even got a name picked out if I ever do pull one of our Ollies....

Tractor pulls arent any harder on a tractor than pulling any other heavy load. Only time you'll get into trouble is if you've really "turned it up". Things break doing farm work too. Worst thing I've done is slip a clutch, probably needs replacing anyhow. Go have yourself some fun. Always fun to watch a true "out of the field" tractor do well.

Are you talking about a linkage bar or a proper swinging drawbar?
Personally, I think the scrap bin is where most linkage bars ought to be.... but mabey that's just me.
I spose a swinging bar may have been broken at some point and not replaced...

Well, you all mess around and ban Allan...I might just have to start reading e-bay. Takes all kinds to play, run, work and fix tractors. Allan knows more than most whaen it comes to a working piece of iron...sure has helped a lot of us.
