talkin to my neighbor yesterday, he was telling me about some new tax on propane tanks stored on your property. seemed like they were gonna charge 2-$3000.00 for some kind of anti terrorist thing. i dunno, any body heard about this yet? may have to get rid of my grain dryers. seemes like it was if you had 1,000 lbs or gallons or more, you had to register them somewhere. im confused.

Gerald's link to the newagtalk posting came on while I was typing up my 11;04 comment...this could turn into a problem for propane users if enough logical opposition isn't raised...EVERY PROPANE USER SHOULD READ THE WHOLE THREAD ON NEWAGTALK...this Administration is looking under rocks for ways to look like they're actually trying to protect us, and this could be seen as an easy ploy to slip thru, just for publicity purposes. I'm not saying that large storage areas aren't vulnerable, but you have to watch an admin that makes us remove our shoes and go thru body scans so we can sit in an airplane seat, above a bellyfull of freight that hasn't been checked...

The proposal is real. The trigger point appears to be 1750 gallons total on the farm. There are official objections.

Its not a tax, but a requirement for a safety study and probably adding some unspecified safety equipment to keep terrorists from using the fuel supply for car bombs. Likely some thing like enclosing tanks contrary to all existing fire safety rules.

I did hear something on the news about propane storage. It was a law being passed that would put some kind of burden on those with lots of storage such as farmers. I dont remember that there was a huge tax like that though. Just some kind of registration or regulation of some sort.

Wellll...there"s "forewarned is forearmed", and there"s "ignorance is bliss"...I don"t know anything about this, but I"d rather be felt foolish for asking than find out later it"s too late to voice opposition to something possibly ill-conceived...
