I was asked, Which came first? The automobile or the tractor? I'm not sure, but I'd guess the tractor. I'm talking internal combustion, not steam. Any thoughts?

This is considered to be the first successful gas tractor built in 1889.

The first auto was from Peugout in France in 1893. Then Henry Ford came up with mass production before WW1.

Well, walk behinds are considered tractors in a way. So I would say tractors. Walk behinds came out before the auto. I don't have any dates off the top of my head, but someone should. Doug N
