Tractor was for sale at show. Run needed resto. Man was looking at it a younger fellow started talking to him and agreed to sell it for $$600 (or whatever) Guy paid cash and was happy. Young fellow gave a blurb on starting it etc and was gone no receipt. The new owner started it up and took it about and took it to his trailer. All hell broke loose when it proper owner saw it being moved. (security was called and so was vulgar launguage) Young fellow was never seen again nor was the money.

i feel very very sorry for the guy who 'bought' the tractor... he had no proof to stand his claim, either.

Years ago, woman who worked for me brought her car into a large dealership in Worcester for some work. It was a while-you-wait repair, and she pulled into the spot in the shop they told her to and went up to the service counter to drop off the keys.

Little while later they came in the waiting room..."Err, where is your car?"

Looking at the security cameras later, someone walked behind the counter, grabbed the keys off the board, and drove off with her mini-van.

Friend of mine stopped under a canopy at a local hospital to take her aunt into the emergency room for treatment. She was pleased to see a vallet parking attendant on duty and was helping her aunt out of the rear seat when the vallet seemed to be in a hurry. She says to hold on a bit and she needed her purse out of the front seat. The guy pointed a handgun in her face and told her in easy to understand language for her to hurry with her aunt if she wanted her out of the car. Don't know if the car was recovered or not.

At one of the garages that I worked at in the 80's prior to joining the service. We held an auction once a month or once every other month. It came to our attention (well when the cops show up and start asking questions) that there were tractors being sold in the area that were stolen from other areas and states. We did manage to help retrieve a couple of them and some construction equipment when we started running serial numbers. It seems that most people didn't then keep the serial numbers handy and was able to move the tractors quite easily.
