I was taken by the lack of response to "welcome" dan , not only to this forum, but also to the antique tractor hobby when on the same day the forum was discussing the decline in interest in the hobby. We have all been where Dan is right now, having the excitement of that first tractor (or car or girlfriend) and want to share it. We need more Dan's and they need our encouragement.

thanks Allan. I've never put a line there but always seemed to work fine starting without it. Maybe I'll try it to see what I'm missing.

Why? Because postings with titles like "everyone read" scream LOUDMOUTH KNOW-IT-ALL JERK, and nobody wants to deal with a loudmouthed know-it-all jerk, so they pass right on by.

I'm not saying Dan is a loudmouth know-it-all jerk, so don't get all upset and mad at me!!! I'm just saying that it was a poor choice of words for the title of his first post.

Besides, I didn't know we OWED every new poster a page full of "welcome" posts. I certainly didn't get any when I posted for the first time; I see new users every day and have not once seen a "welcome" posted in reply to their question.

Besides, besides, the forum software on this site is so lobotomized compared to what's available, you can't even tell if a person is a new user because they can change their handle with every post!!!

May have been the "everyone read" subject line. I'm reminded of the one golden rule when you encounter someone with an "Ask me about Amway" bumper sticker- for heaven's sake, DON'T ASK!

First of all, welcome Dan. You`ve landed among some of the best guys in this hobby, and also a great site that is full of info.

JJ, my take on your question is this. I think alot are like me, not one of the regulars, but pop in here and there when time allows. I don`t have time to read through all the posts, so I just scan down the page to ones that are of interest to me, or I can be of assistance to. No fault of Dan`s, but his post is titled "everyone read". Seems to me the best responses are to posts that have a brief decription of the topic of the post. That way, all the folks like me can tell what the post is about without having to open each one. I agree we should welcome anyone who is starting out in this hobby, and it is pretty easy to drop a welcome reply. Have a great day Brokenwrench

I never asked for an introduction nor expected one when I came along. I just posted my problem and took it from there. Anyway, welcome Dan.

Don't let your friend drive it off the trailer for you. Ask him/her to coach you through the process. Will take longer but what an experience. Besides if you can handle bigger, smaller shouldn't be a problem. Other than the clutch instead of the auto. And yes you were right there is alot of info on these sights. How much further along (or messed up) would we be if our great grandfathers had access to these sites?
