Leaky hydraulic ports

Those newer hydraulic ports that you just push the hoses in and jerk to remove are leaking for me.

I'm not talking the external o ring.

This one is leaking with no hoses hooked to it.

Do I have a valve problem or is there a bad seal in the hydraulic port?

I have had the coupler body out of the block of steel but don't know if they are rebuildable?

Gary

Well up till about a month or so ago I would agree but I have sold 3 in the past 3 months. If I hadn't I could not be buying again.

If you use them a lot they will leak sooner or later I just put up with them until they get real bad and a drip becomes a mess. As they said you can rebuild them with new seals but I'm not sure that it isn't easier and cheaper just to replace them.

It is the O/Rings in the coupler as dirt and dust get in there and scratch the o/rings and now ya got a dripper if it is not the check valve where the male and female come together then ya need a new unit. They don't build them to last just sell them as the latest and greatest then sell ya parts.

Hey Gary, if it doesn't leak with a hose attached, would the rubber "port plugs" stop it from leaking when you don't have a hose hooked on to it? At least until winter when you have more time to tinker?

If you pull the rubber dust seal off the front (there should be a snap ring holding it in) and the 5/16" bolt out of the back the coupler you can take the coupler out to check the seals. I don't know how it could have happened but I had one that got a little corroded which let it drip like your saying. Also there are two rubber seals that are like square shoulderd o-rings that seal the coupler in the housing that could be bad. Those ISO conversions aren't as reliable as the factory setup but they sure beat having to use adaptors. Between our 5488, 1086 and three 1066s we have them all changed over to ISOs and it seems like about once a year one will start leaking like yours are.

Thanks Cliff so the coupler body itself is rebuildable.

I put these in about 5 years ago for the same reason as you. But thought maybe they were throw aways and had to replace the whole coupler in the couple body.

Didn't look them over much before I installed them.

Where did you get the replacement square orings?

Does CaseIH stock them?

Do those have levers on the side of the couplers that turn the flow on and off like our 1586? up and down is off and horizontal is on.

No not the big IH couplers.

These have been changed to ISO couplers.

No levers like the IH has.

It's about gotta be in that outside port, doesn't it? Is it leaking really bad or is it just a "seeper"?

I had noticed that someone had changed that old gal over to the "latest and greatest".

Morning Allan

The 1066 is fine,

I got the same on my 1086 and it just started leaking.

Doesn't leak when there is a hose on it but does leak when that port is not used.

Should there be presure there when the lever is not activated?

Leaking a steady drip. About two drips per second.

I "think" your new tractor has the closed center system, doesn't it? That would put pressure there all the time as it is a "on-demand" type system?

Don't know anything about that newer system, but understand that is the way it works anyway.

Yes this is the newer 81 1086 that is leaking.

OK you may be right about pressure there all the time.

In that case I will tear apart the coupler and see what isgoing on.

Didn't know where to start the valve or the coupler?

Thanks Gary
