live look at the mountains near boone, nc.

we went in august last year. left 98 degrees temp here and up there, never gets above 80. no air conditioner in hotels. in the dog days of summer at night it gets to 40 degrees.

however this area has some of the worst air pollution in the US coming from factories in the flatlands below. tops of mountians are defoliated because of acid rain.

It was always a pretty good little show, I enjoyed going.I joined Foothills in 2000 after Olin Rafalt helped me restore my Dads M since I didnt have a big enough space to do a good job. Later in the year when it came to show time, I asked the club if it was ok for my uncle, who at the time was in the shriners, broguht there little lawnmower "tractors" and if the Bloodmoblie could come. Everyone was in full agrrement this would be good, give some blood, help some children, etc. Well, this particuyalr year it started on Friday, and of course not many people showed up since most were working.Heck, I got bored and left myself, and when I returned there was only one food vendor serving only hot dogs and a cannned drink.Saturday morning, my unlce and his group, and the Bloodmoblie showed up bright and early.I saw a few folks going into the bloodmoblie, my unlce and his friends seem to be having fun, and it looked like it was going to be a good day. Well about 11:00 they turnd on the grill to sell burgers. A few of the memebers didnt like it because the "food vendors" were getting mad, remeber its now just one. So the yhad to stop. parade time came and they did their little rountine during the parade and another guy got mad because he thought it hed up traffic during the parade, so while they were moving along, someone told themn they couldnt do that routine again.Aorunbd 2 or so, the yturned on the music. Folks were dancing nearby, and really enjoying themselves when the treasurer of the club, who herself was dancing at one point, decided the music was too loud and instead of going and saying something herself, got one of the clubs most wealthiest members to do her "dirty work". Outraged at this point, the Shriners loaded up and left. The president of the club, joned by this same wealthy member, and the "garden tractor puller man", came up to me and said if I was going to associate with "those" kind of people, they didnt want me in the club. I loaded my tractors and havent looked back. I am still friends with Olin, and speak to him when I do see him, which is usually at a show.He always appologizes for what happened because he was the one who talked me into joining.
